This activity pack contains 14 activities to explore the topic of Volcanoes. They can be used as whole class activities, centre activities or individual activities. The activities strongly combine the science topic with reading skills and strategies. Many activities relate to the comprehension strategy of summarising. Some are also writing prompts.
Some of them link to internet sites for technology use. A lot of the activities are in foldable format. Answers are included where appropriate. The only resources that are needed are some texts or books on volcanoes which can include websites. Any activities that require a text or book can then be scaffolded to the appropriate level.

Place Value and value of a digit interactive notebook math foldable
This interactive math notebook page looks at place value and value of a digit. Photos and a description page included. You could also cut off the end making it only whole numbers as it goes up to hundredths.
Vocabulary foldables are included for “place value” and “value of a digit”.
Also included is a foldable for the different place value columns up to hundredths. Two foldable versions are included using units or ones.
This page asks students to create a number on their place value foldable and then to write the number in words and expanded notation. It then asks students to create questions and answer them based on the vocabulary e.g. “What is the place value of the 3?” on their number.

Types of triangles classification interactive notebook math foldable
This foldable leads students through classifying triangles by sides or angles. It’s great as a math interactive notebook entry.
There is a double flap at the front, the first flap indicates whether the student is classifying by sides or angles.

Math Game - Leap Frog Equal Fractions
This is a matching game. Students match equivalent fractions on the game cards with fractions on the game board. They multiply the numerator and denominator by the number on the dice and then find that fraction on the game board. For an extension activity you could remove the dice component and have students find equivalent
fractions without that support.

Space Fraction Game involves adding fractions
A game involving adding fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 which all have factors in common. The numerators are 1, 2, or 3. Students roll a die and and move that number of spaces on the game board. They pick up a card and add it to the space they landed on. If correct they stay on that spot, if incorrect they move back to where they started. Play continues until one player reaches the finish.

Matching Equivalent Fractions Game - "Sing a song of fractions"
This game involves matching equivalent fractions in number form or pictorial form. The fractions involve denominators of 3, 6 and 12.
Students shuffle the cards and place them out in memory format. They then turn over cards to
match equivalent fractions. They take the pair when they have matched them.

Math Game - Operation Fraction - practicing all operations with fractions
This game practices completing the four operations with fractions. It also can practice comparing fractions. Students randomly choose number cards to make fractions, then complete the action on the action card. They generally have a specified time e.g. 1 minute to complete the problem on their working out paper. They get points based on their answer (bonus points for simplified answers).
