There are three ways of completing this task for the delight of your students. Print on card, Trim the edges, and fold each row into a two sided card. Punch a hole through, and create a “revision keyring” with an elastic band or piece of string. Print on card and completely mix up the definitions and keywords for them to sort together. As an option, they could glue the correct sides back to front and then make their keychain. The most challenging: Print on card and only give them the keyword side of the card sort. Ask them to write the country the word belongs to, and the definition on the back. I’ve included both a word document and a PDF for ease of printing,

Do your students need a considerate approach to preparing them for their independent compositions? Are you too busy running around your class of 32 to give them individual step by step instructions? Would you like a full resource that will result in weeks of high quality independent composing? Fear not, my tried and tested student friendly composition guide is here! This powerpoint can be shown to the whole class or given as individual differentiation support Each slide is accompanied with a detailed explanation and examples in audio, midi and also sheet music. This is a differentiated resource that allows musicians of all abilities and experience to achieve their target grade while considering musical elements and specific observations about this year’s options that will help them begin their compositions in a focused way, This resource was created with the new OCR GCSE music specification in mind, but could be applied to other exam boards or composition projects that look to strengthen the application of all musical elements. I have included by estimated interpretation of what higher graded pieces of music will include. As you (and the music education community know), there is no telling what lies around the corner! But this is an educated guess as good as it gets. *Please let me know if there are any issues around formatting for your OS, or if there are any issues with audio files and I will happily amend any issues you have.

This booklet is designed for students (and let’s face it SLT/OFSTED) to track their progress in working towards their composition coursework. It includes pages on target grade achievement, a working check list, a half-way through the project reflection and marking space, and an end of project assessment. It can be adapted for any area of study and includes a space for you to customise key points students need to focus on. My students enjoy having all their work in one place, and my own observers comment that it is “easy” to observe their progress and reflection in a subject their not familiar with. *Please note the grade boundaries supplied are based off of the 2017 grade boundaries which of course you can edit year to year. **The check list is my own interpretation of the specification and is not verified by any exam board.
