A powerpoint for AQA AS level unit 4 Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms (3.4.6 Biodiversity within a community). Starter is assessing prior knowledge/previous learning of key words (biodiversity, species, ecosystem and habitat). Gives an explanation and walkthrough on how to calculate index of diversity and why it is necessary. Includes definitions of key words throughout. Main task is a worksheet for the students to practice calculating index of diversity. The worksheet comes with answers at the bottom. There are also exam questions based on the lesson including definitions, explaining why the index of diversity is necessary and describing what is needed to calculate the index of diversity. The powerpoint allows students to discuss the different genetic traits they have as well as instructions on how to draw Punnet squares. A powerpoint for the third lesson of the AQA AS level unit 2 Cells. Includes three worksheets, one for labeling a prokaryotic cell, one for comparing prokaryotic cells to eukaryotic cells and the third is an exam question. Includes a slide for a game of splat! for all the organelles for a bit of competition and to keep them recapping the new vocabulary.

A powerpoint for AQA AS level unit 4 Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms (3.4.5 Species and taxonomy). Starter is getting students to think about differences and similarities between similar organisms, attempting to get them to think what defines a species. Gives an explanation on the binomial system, defining a species and how courtship behaviour is important for the survival of a species. Includes definitions of key words throughout. Mini research task to get students to find the binomial names from common names of organisms (Internet is required for this) There are also exam questions based on the lesson including definitions, explaining why courtship behaviour is necessary and using knowledge to explain how you can find out if two organisms are of the same species. Both worksheets come with answers at the bottom.

I made this as a revision sheet for my year 10s. They preferred using colours to colour coordinate the glands and hormones as all the lines can get pretty messy. The more able students were capable of doing the majority whereas the lesser able used their books and a textbook to complete it.

Can be put onto a powerpoint or printed for a game of taboo, great for revision! The idea being the student needs to describe the word at the top of the card without using the words on the bullet points.
