Speaking cards, general questions and improvised situations La influencia de los ídolos (AQA)

This is the forth installment of cards, general questions and improvised situations that I have created (others also available in this site). Some of the context of the cards are: singers who sing using swear words, beauty pageants in Mexico, models who break mold, footballers who appear in ads, etc. The improvised situations practise expressing the opposite opinion and reasoning it. I enclose a brief preview to give you an idea of the material. If you found the resource useful (or not), I would be most grateful for a comment. Again, I hope that £2 is a reasonable price for everybody: it cuts your work and it rewards mine. I will be producing cards for Unit 5 shortly, so watch this space. Any comments here or at bgp@stbrn.ac.uk gratefully received. Enjoy!

Speaking cards, questions and game El racismo (New AL)

A comprehensive set of speaking cards focusing on cutting-edge areas of this topic. It includes cards on racist expressions in Spanish, islamofobia, aporofobia, racism against indigenous people in Peru, etc. They can be used in class, prepared for homework or as a mock exam. The revision notes for this topic can help students to prepare these cards. The general questions are for pair work, to prepare a presentation or for mock exams. I have included questions on Trump and his immigration policies which are seen as racist by many. At the end, there is a game to challenge students and help them with spontaneous talk. Thanks to all for your continuous support. Happy learning. Blanca

This is the third booklet of its kind that I have produced for the preparation of the AQA A Level Spanish course. The booklet consists of 8 stimulus cards to be used in class or to take home for preparation (with references to further reading), 8 situations for improvisation and a collection of general questions. The general questions marked as (*) require the student to have a cultural knowledge. I hope your students find the resource useful and it cuts down your work! I have priced it at £2 to make it as accessible as possible whilst gaining some financial recognition for my work. You will find more resources for Units 1, 3 and 4 in this site. I welcome all comments at this site or via email to:bgp@stbrn.ac.uk.

A simple classroom activity that can be done at the beginning of the course in GCSE or AL1, to revise the present tense. Play the PPP (timed) and make your students write the correct verb. For more able students, I make them write a sentence using topic-specific vocabulary. I have created this resource inspired and with kind permission of shara_nuku, who is selling PPPs with drills for all the other tenses. See her wonderful shop in TES, it is ACE! Enjoy the teaching and learning, Blanca

El ordenador en nuestra vida cotidiana (listening)

A listening (or reading) activity focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of computers for personal use, between parents and children and for working at home. Two versions of the exercise for differentiation, together with transcript. Also, an extension reading at the end (quality not the best, apologies).

Y13/12 Moving on Academic Activities for HE

This is a one page compendium of on line activities to keep Y13 working in preparation for a degree linked to Hispanic Studies. They can also be issued for Y12, summer work. The activities are varied, including on line courses, articles, videos, radio programmes and podcasts. Some of topics are: working as a translator for a controversial political figure, philosophy, the arts, legalization of drugs, etc. They are geared towards independent learning, no input from the teacher. Students will be able to keep their skills alive whilst extending their learning following their completion of the AS/A Level course. For Y12, it would be a clever addition to their UCAS portfolio. I KINDLY ASK THAT YOU RESPECT COPYRIGHT, I HAVE INVESTED A LOT OF TIME DOING THIS. All for the price of a sandwich and saving you a lot of work! A similar resource for Y11 is here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/y11-head-start-activities-for-a-level-spanish-12299364

This is a listening/reading activity where students watch a cutting-edge insightful video on young people who have left Spain due to unemployment. Students work on to the transcript to answer questions INTERPRETING what they have seen/heard. It helps students to gain cultural depth, as well as develop their analytical skills. I used it as an introduction to the topic, and students worked in pairs. There is also a website with the same title which I found really interesting. Good for extension reading after the exercise. Enjoy! Blanca

I’ve created a kahoot for after showing this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdizSgFEuR8. The kahoot is at: https://play.kahoot.it/…. Excuse the photos, they are a bit generic and possibly not accurate, but hey, they add colour!. I hope it is useful.

This is an article taken from The Guardian newspaper where two young people are interviewed on the subject. There are four exercises to check general comprehension and answers. The format of the exercises is that of the new A Level exams (AQA), for example, summarising. The reading could be followed by students writing or voicing their own opinions on the subject. I have recently created other useful resources for the new specification. Please see below.

This is the second PP of a series to help teachers guide their students on writing an essay. The PP contains: background revision reading exercises to revise themes and characters, relating both model introductions, paragraphs and conclusions, with explanations to guide students to analyse these suggestions on short writing tasks to practice before the long essay annotations / essay plan on the question proposed. The PP is self contain and it can be easily adapted to your group. If you like it, you can also visit the first PP of the series on techniques to contextualise the film. Here is the final installment (hoorrayyyy!!!) of stimulus cards , general questions and one little exercise practicing making questions for the new A level. You will see the cards are varied in content, always trying to think a bit out of the box! The other installments are also available in TES. The first set on "Los valores tradicionales y modernos" contains sample questions (I have ploughed through every possible card on this planet so I hope I got them all!). You would have noticed these questions follow a pattern, so I have tried to reproduce it on my cards. There are revision notes/ general notes accompanying this card (useful for the students to prepare the cards independently). These are also available in TES. I hope you find them useful and your £2 save you a lot of work. Any comments, as usual, are welcome. happy teaching and learning! Blanca
