A Scheme of Work for late KS3 - especially year 8 and 9 which explores the science of music. Starting with how we hear and speak/sing The Science of Music looks at how music is measured and how the elements of music (pitch/dynamics/timbre) effect its measurement. Famous musician-scientists are explored with a final composition task based on a scientific principle. Technology links are made with teaching on EQ adjustment, with instructional videos for several of the main DAW packages including GarageBand, BandLab and Audacity. The Science of Music includes practical experiments both with and without instruments and links to listening quizzes.
