A variety of different classroom activities and worksheets for teaching the irregular verb estar in the present tense to beginners in a few lessons. Includes:
dictation missing letters task to introduce verb and emotions and practise phonics
inductive grammar worksheet to fill in with translations
Interactive oral/memory tasks on ppt. to consolidate the conjugations
Resources on mi tiempo libre / mis pasatiempos including regular verbs, sports and activities vocab, time phrases and connectives. Resources are mostly worksheets with different activities, often listening, matching, writing and translation.
Resources for teaching ser vs estar uses for the first time. Includes:
Inductive grammar ppt. exercise where pupils work out the rules
ser or estar worksheet with translations - teacher notes on other activities and answers included
ser or estar quiz sheet all in Spanish, where pupils also have to justify reason
Worksheet introduce and extensively practise vocab to do with daily routines and school. The aim is for pupils to learn all this language, including the verbs as vocabulary, BEFORE you go on to unpack the grammar of reflexive verbs and practise the conjugations. This helps avoid cognitive overload (which often happens when trying to teach grammar rules and meaning at the same time) Answers included, of course.
Worksheets and list of teaching ideas for introducing new vocab for describing your school and revising the verbs ser and estar. Practises the vocab with a matching exercise and a gap-fill.
Short grammar exercise + answers and extra teaching ideas! Worksheet to be done either projected onto the board on mini whiteboards, or printed off and completed. Pupils can practise using ser or estar correctly, and haber and tener correctly. It is within the context of the school topic.
Basic text on topic of mi colegio with vocab activities and translation. Once you have completed the vocab-finding activity, you can do true or false statements tailored to your group, OR comprehension questions. A more interesting and challenging activity is to get students to come up with a list of their own true or false statements to ask others - a great way to get them to study the text in detail. Finish with the translations. Answers included, of course.
For students studying Julieta by Almodovar - 8 questions. You could get each student to choose 1 question to discuss in pairs and develop during a lesson after watching the film, or set it as a homework task to complete whilst watching the film. Students can develop some bullet point notes in Spanish in response. The idea is to get them to explore the questions in as much detail and depth as possible and to consider some of the main themes of the film that these questions elicit.
A short sequence of teacher-led oral drilling activities to practise/revise the present tense of the big 4 irregulars in French. This activity should be after pupils have seen the tables of conjugations and are familiar with the English meanings. Possible sequence:
model the pronunciation of the sentences 1-5 on each slide, do some listen & repeat oral drills (choral repetition, individual repetition, whispering, shouting etc. to drill pronunciation)
pupils translate orally into english in pairs
pupils given 30 seconds / 1 minute to ‘memorise’ the verbs and their meanings on the sentences
memory task - recall the verbs
repeat for the other verbs
matching task to reinforce verb meanings - pupils do orally in pairs
gap-fill task - you could cold call pupils for this one. If it’s too hard, give them 2 options orally in French eg. ‘J’ai sept cours’ or ‘Je suis sept cours’ ?

A mini sentence builder on topic of parler des professeurs, including vocab to describe people’s hair and eyes as well as opinion phrases and school subjects. French school topic, with some translations, list of possible teaching ideas, and mosaic translations à la Conti! Answers included, of course. Enough work for 1-2 lessons depending on ability.

A worksheet with a few teacher-led activities to learn and consolidate vocab for giving positive and negative opinions on hobbies. Answers and instructions included.
A short reading comprehension on the day of the dead (El día de Muertos). It is well adapted to beginners of Spanish due to the number of cognates in the text and the vocab-finding exercise. Comprehension questions help students to learn about this tradition.
