Fun French vocabulary puzzles! There are 8 fun puzzles worksheets for revision of beginner French vocabulary at KS2 or KS3. These no prep printable activities include differentiation, vocabulary support and full answer keys. They are great for back to school, start of term, end of term, early finishers tasks etc. They include words from topics such as: Body Parts / Les Parties du Corps Calendar / Le Calendrier et Quel est la Date? Clothing / Les Vetements Colours / Les Couleurs Describing People / Les Descriptions Physiques Family / La Famille Food and Drink / La Nourriture et Les Boissons Greetings and Introductions / Les Salutations et Je me Presente Numbers / Les Nombres Pets / Les Animaux de Compagnie School / L’ecole Classroom Vocabulary / Les Objets de la Classe Sport and Hobbies / Le Sport et Les Passe-temps Weather / La Meteo   My French basics resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and equivalents, depending on experience and ability. Please check previews to assess suitability.   Contained in this 35-page PDF file: 8 puzzles worksheets (3 versions of each) Full answer keys Vocabulary list to support students who require it Teacher instruction page   SAVE by getting this in French Revision Worksheets BUNDLE, which also contains French Comprehension Worksheets   Students translate numbered English words and enter into the grid. The letters in the shaded boxes, reading from top to bottom, form a French sentence. Students write this on the lines at the bottom, placing one letter on each dash (slashes separate the words), and translate it. Choose which version you require for your students, depending on age, experience and ability: The 1-star versions have some of the letters added to the grid to support students, the 2-star versions just have the first letter of each word (or if the first letter is in a shaded box, the rest of the word has been supplied instead), while the 3-star versions (hardest) feature entirely blank grids. You can also differentiate by supplying the vocabulary support list to students who require it. This approach works especially well with the 2-star puzzles as students can use the first letter of any word they don’t know to find the French translation relatively quickly. MORE TIPS: Students could work on these puzzles in groups or mixed ability pairs. To use again, laminate and use dry-wipe pens. Students could be encouraged to use French dictionaries or the Internet for words they do not know. They could also use them to check the meaning of the hidden sentence.

Sentence Building (Jumbled) KS1

(1)
This is a popular hands-on Year 1 making sentences word ordering resource. It’s a full class set of 30 different reusable simple sentence building activity boards and now also comes with an additional worksheet version of all boards. Originally designed for Year 1 (Y1) (or Primary 2 in Scotland), these sentence construction SPaG / Grammar activities could be used elsewhere in EYFS / Reception (Primary 1) and Key Stage 1, depending on ability. Emergent writers love lifting the words off the boards to sort and unscramble them to find the hidden sentence. With an engaging picture clue and title on each board, this word sequencing Literacy Basic Skills resource suits a range of learning styles. After carefully reading the jumbled words, your early writers correctly rearrange them on the board before writing the sentence out on the lines provided, using a dry-wipe pen. Regular practice with scrambled sentences should help children begin to form sentences independently. This is a 66 page PDF document in a Zip file, together with an additional editable Word document of the word cards only. Each mixed-up sentence contains a word beginning with a capital letter to help identify the first word and to reinforce this important punctuation rule, and a full stop to pick up and place at the end. While constructing these sentences, children also learn about word order, parts of speech and that a sentence must make sense on its own. These sentences contain 6-8 words. A simpler set featuring scrambled 4-5 word sentences is available, as is a muddled up questions version. SAVE by purchasing all 3 Sentence Ordering sets in a bundle. Jumbled Sentences (4-5 words) Jumbled Questions Jumbled Sentences BUNDLE Print in colour on quality card to make it sturdy and laminate for repeated use. It’s ideal for using as a regular activity, with children working on a different one each session. Or choose the ones you make up if working with a smaller group. It could be used with SEN / ASN groups or others requiring support with writing. Words are printed in faint grey on each sheet in a random order. Once laminated, cut the word strips and stick each word on top of this faint type, using Blu Tack, Blu Tack ‘Glu Dots’ or equivalent. Each strip is in a different colour to help identify the board it is from. Train the children to replace the words to these starting positions and to wipe boards before putting them back. Good quality laminating pouches and easy-wipe pens will help with this! Pleae visit FullShelf Resources

PE Active Maths and Fitness Game KS2

PE, Numeracy and communication skills mix in this fun active relay fitness game for Primary (Key Stage 2, especially Year 4, 5 and 6). Great for outdoor learning or special events such as National Maths Week, to have children practising mental calculations in another curriculum area. Alternatively, use this activity as a warm up to add variety to your normal Physical Education programme. Good teamwork and communication should be encouraged as teammates help each other to work out the calculations and guide each other to the possible answer cards, while navigating around the hidden Exercise Cards (which force the team to divert onto a variety of athletic challenges!). 4 files are included: large versions of game boards and cards in PDF, small versions, plus editable exercise card files (both sizes - in PPT), in case you wish to add some of your own exercise ideas. Print and laminate the boards and cards you require. No equipment is necessary and the game can be played in a gym hall or outside space. Answer key included. INSTRUCTIONS (Also included within the file): Split students into up to 7 groups, giving each a calculation board. Shuffle the number cards and as many exercise cards (12 included) as you wish, spreading them out face down at the other end of the playing area. You may wish to remove the answer cards for any board not in use. Teams send one person at a time running to collect a card. On each go, students must only turn over one card. If they know it is not an answer to any calculations on their board, they replace it, or else they can bring it back to their team to check and the next team member can replace it if it is not required, before collecting another card. If a player turns over an Exercise Card, they must bring it back to their group and the whole team must perform the stipulated exercises. When all members are finished the exercise, the next runner can set off for another card. The winners are the first team to cover all their calculations with the correct answer cards. There are two of each number card, as each answer features on two boards, helping to ensure a faster game. To speed up the game or to add an extra element, include as many Pass Cards as you like. If children turn over a Pass Card they can place it over any calculation they want, for instance if they are finding a calculation too difficult or if there is an answer card they are struggling to find. For differentiation, use mixed ability groups or else grant certain groups extra pass cards to cover more challenging calculations. To ensure a smooth game, circulate with the answer key for at-a-glance checking. If groups have accidentally taken another group’s answer card, ensure they quickly replace it so as not to hamper the progress of other teams. Thank you for your interest.

There are additional versions of 7 of the worksheets and the puzzles for lower ability or less experienced students with word banks or the start of words printed etc. Full answer keys and instructions included. All 30 pages are in PDF format within the Zip file. Please check the detailed previews to check if these resources are suitable for you.   INCLUDED IN THIS WORKSHEETS PACK: VOCAB SUPPORT: The words for this unit have been divided into a core set of 18 words (List A) and 18 additional words (List B). Worksheets 1, 2 and 5 focus on words from List A. The 2 labelling worksheets and the puzzles also contain some of the words from List B. There’s a word mat for the List A words in 3 versions, including eco-printing options, a list page for both A and B and a combined list too. 5 WORKSHEETS: With full answer keys and all in 1- and 2-star versions. The 1-star versions are for lower ability, younger or less experienced students and contain support such as word banks or the start of missing words. Includes jumbled words, translations, and labelling worksheets. GRID PUZZLE: Students put the French body part words into the grid to reveal a related sentence in the shaded boxes. There’s a supported, one-star version with the first letter of each word and a two-star version without this support. HIDDEN WORD PUZZLE: Students work individually or in pairs or small groups to find translation errors with body parts vocabulary. When they find one, they circle the letter printed in the same box. At the end, they rearrange the circled letters to make another body part word. CROSSWORD PUZZLE: The clues involve students completing French phrases. An easier, one-star version gives students the first three letters of each word that they need to write into the grid. Accents not included. Super Sentences is a fun creative writing VCOP activity or SPaG game (spelling, punctuation and grammar), ideal for Key Stage 2 (KS2) and early KS3, Year 5, 6 and 7 (Y5, Y6 and Y7) which promotes ambitious vocabulary and variety in sentence structures. Improve sentences by using it again and again! PDF format. 40 printable sentence-formation cards Colour and black and white versions Great as a regular morning starter, early finisher task or warm up for writing. An introductory card models ways to add interest and variety to sentences. Encourages building complex and compound sentences, using subordinate clauses etc. Let students write as silly a sentence as they want and relish playing with words to banish boring sentences!   Also available is Sensational Sentences, featuring even more ambitious vocabulary for older or more able students. SAVE BY GETTING BOTH PACKS IN: Complex Sentences Cards BUNDLE MORE BUNDLE OPTIONS FOR THIS RESOURCE: Improving Sentences BUNDLE Literacy and Maths Time Fillers Year 5 / 6   MORE INFO: Designed as a dice game, it can be used in other ways. As individuals, in pairs or in groups, students roll to find out which 3 words they must incorporate into a sentence (Instructions are on the cards). There are 6 groups of words on each card – openers/connectives, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and two groups of nouns. Students place the selected words anywhere in their sentence, as long as it makes sense, recording the sentence on paper or a mini whiteboard. You may wish to allow flexibility (changing verb tense, using the verb as an adjective etc.) To cater for different situations and abilities, change the number of words they roll for, have students team up with a partner or select any words they want from the card. I encourage dictionary use for unfamiliar words and urge students to keep sentences they are especially proud of for use in longer pieces of writing. The activity might spark a whole story! Print on card or paper and laminate for repeated use. With a smaller group, choose the ones you print and/or laminate cards back to back. Alternatively, display cards on the screen for whole class use.   YOU MIGHT LIKE… Editing SPaG Puzzles Worksheets Creative Writing Prompt Cards First and Third Person Lesson

German Greetings and Introductions Game

NO PREP printable board game and vocabulary card for oral practice of basic German greetings (Die Begrüßungen auf Deutsch), farewells and introducing yourself in German. This speaking review activity reinforces vocabulary such as Guten Tag (Hello), Guten Abend (Good evening), Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye) and Bis bald (See you soon). Students will practise asking and answering questions such as Wie geht’s? (How are you?), Wie heißt du? (What’s your name?), Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?), and Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?). My German basics resources are made for students beginning German and near beginners in KS2 or early KS3 (Years 5, 6 and 7) and equivalents but they may suit others, depending on experience. Please check the preview file to assess suitability. Three slightly different versions of this game are included, with minor changes to a small number of phrases with locations in them. This is to better suit learners in US & Canada (Page 1 of the PDF), Australia and New Zealand (Page 2), and UK and Ireland (Page 3). All phrases used in the game feature on the vocabulary card so if you are not teaching in any of these countries, you will still be able to use the game. The vocabulary card can support younger, less experienced, or less able students. Brief instructions for students are printed on the board, together with fuller instructions on Page 5 of the PDF file. In turn, students roll a dice and move the appropriate number of spaces. They have to say aloud in German the word, phrase or question they land on, otherwise they return to the space they came from. You may wish to print the board in A3 for larger groups but it works well in A4 too.
