Ideal for KS2 or early KS3 or equivalents, this lesson presentation covers German Greetings (Die Begrüßungen auf Deutsch) and Introductions Beginners Vocabulary. Introduce and review this unit with a 116-slide interactive PowerPoint (and additional PDF version). Includes greetings such as Guten Tag (Hello) and Guten Abend (Good evening) and farewells such as Auf Wiedersehen (Goodbye) and Bis bald (See you soon). Students will learn responses to questions such as Wie geht’s? (How are you?), Wie heißt du? (What’s your name?), Wie alt bist du? (How old are you?), and Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?).
Almost all text in this presentation is editable. Most slides feature answers that appear on the the click of a mouse. Recapping slides and role-play slides (with answer keys) are also included for plenty of oral practice and there’s a fun interactive Hexagons review game at the end. There’s enough here to plan multiple lessons around. In the Zip file, there is the original PowerPoint and a PDF version. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still enable you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. The Hexagons game is not compatible with PDF.
Slides about where you live and where you come from focus on examples about Germany and other German-speaking countries, together with English-speaking countries such as US, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
This presentation is suitable for teaching younger or older students and adults as you have all the slides and examples you need to teach using either the informal ‘du’ or formal ‘Sie’ for ‘you’. It begins by using the informal ‘du’, which is ideal for younger students but at the end of the presentation (from slide 117), there are additional versions of relevant slides, the role-plays and the hexagon game, all using the formal ‘Sie’. You can either use the presentation all the way through, teaching both ‘du’ and ‘Sie’ or stop at slide 116 (especially if teaching younger students).

An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these no prep puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. They are similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after completing the calculations. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a decimals calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing errors. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. Students often forget or avoid checking their own work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking the calculations in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
Well-differentiated Decimal Place Value Four-in-a-Row Game Boards and Cards: Use for consolidation of decimal place value understanding and ordering decimal numbers (1, 2 and 3 decimal places).
Includes:
• Two sets of 54 decimal number cards featuring numbers from 0.001 to 2.01 (1 set includes numbers up to 2 decimal places, the other up to 3 decimal places)
• Two A3 Four in a Row boards. The 1 star version was originally designed to go with the cards to 2 decimal places, while the more challenging 2 star version was designed for the cards to 3 decimal places. However, both sets of cards would work with either board. It works especially well in A3, however, you could scale down the board to A4 and use the smaller card set supplied.
You could have pairs take on other pairs. Each team of two starts with a set of cards (print each set on different coloured card if you don’t have coloured printing that would allow you to print the different coloured cards supplied, then laminate to use again and again). It works well if each team shuffles their cards, puts them in a pile and takes one from the top at a time, which they then put down on the board if there’s a suitable empty box. They aim to get four of their cards in a row. Each box has a stipulation about the numbers that can be placed on it (no tenths, < 1.5, > 0.31, < 0.56, five hundredths etc). To save printing you could split a set between 2 or 3 boards as a single team won’t require all 54 cards. The cards can also be used separately from the game boards for ordering activities.
Decimal Numbers to 1 Decimal Place Numeracy Treasure Hunt : An active printable mental maths team game, with differentiation, ideal as a whole class starter or plenary, especially when focusing on addition and subtraction of decimals or place value to tenths / one decimal place. It can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of decimals calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included, along with solutions.

PUZZLES WORKSHEETS
An engaging alternative to standard worksheets, these puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs or groups. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a maths-related word is revealed after completing the work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a fraction / calculation and a letter. Students circle any boxes containing incorrect answers or errors such as non-equivalent fractions (depending on which puzzle it is). Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal a maths word. There’s a further question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the word.
Students often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves.
FOUR IN A ROW
Print and laminate the boards for regular use. It was designed in A3 to work especially well with larger groups but you can scale down to print in A4 if required or preferred. There are 6 game boards, two for each level of challenge, indicated with a star system, with one star being the least challenging. The one-star version includes only unit fractions of small numbers. The two-star version includes fractions of larger two-digit numbers, while the three-star version progresses to fractions of three and four-digit numbers.
Students work strategically as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a dice each time to decide from which column to pick a calculation (the columns are numbered 1-6). Students write their answers on the board with a dry-wipe marker.
TREASURE HUNT / ACTIVE CARD GAME
This can be played multiple times as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of fractions calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. There are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included.
You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back.

MORE INFORMATION - TREASURE HUNT:
This can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions included.
Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers.
Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins!

Key Stage 2 starter or warm up activities for Year 4, 5 and 6 maths lessons. This bundle contains 30 mental maths tests or quizzes on PowerPoint presentations for KS2 for regular use throughout the year. No prep! Ideal for differentiation, there are 15 tests at both of the two levels. Each test contains 20 question slides and 20 answer slides. You could use them as part of SATs preparation, as daily / weekly mental starter activities or as part of revision lessons.
**Contains: **
SET A: 15 Tests originally designed for Year 5 and 6
SET B: 15 Tests originally designed for Year 4 (and will suit some Year 3)
You could use a mixture of the two levels for differentiation in the same class. Please check the individual resource descriptions and previews to check if this will meet your needs.
Children enjoy trying to beat their previous best score. These informal tests are split across 6 PowerPoints and are designed to be shown on the whiteboard, with children recording answers in jotters or on paper. In each quiz there’s one question to a slide so children can focus on it for a few seconds before the next one comes up. The question slides are plain and uncluttered to minimise distractions. You can run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer if you wish - alternatively click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions. Each test features 20 calculations involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge.
At the end of each test, there follows the same 20 slides repeated, with the answer added clearly. Children can mark their own or a partner’s work to cut down on your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but each answer appearing with its question like this allows for important discussions about strategies.
Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Negative Numbers, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Decimals, Percentages, Fractions, Money, Measure (including Area and Perimeter, Time, Length), Angles.
Additional dollar versions of all 3 PowerPoints are included, where I have amended any questions involving pounds and pence to suit countries using dollars.
