A unit of work designed to teach Alfred Noyes’s The Highwayman, culminating in a critical essay. Includes a PowerPoint, the poem itself, a short task on similes and metaphors, a wanted poster and storyboard for extension activities, a critical essay plan and a write-on critical essay.

A unit designed to teach the films Nativity! and The Nightmare Before Christmas leading to a comparative essay. Includes reviews for comparison. I taught this to a mixed ability S2 but it could easily be adapted for other levels.
Christmas Comparative Essay Elf/Home Alone
A unit designed to teach the films Elf and Home Alone. Works towards a comparative essay. The pupils will also read two reviews based on the films and compare those within their essays. I used it with an S3 class but could easily be adapted for other levels.

Some RUAE/close reading resources based around Roald Dahl extracts. Covers word choice, imagery and own words with some resources on sentence structure. Includes a PowerPoint and worksheets for both practising and testing.
The Evil Within
A unit of work on Catherine MacPhail’s dyslexia-friendly novel The Evil Within. Focuses on literacy strategies. Includes a PP, a workbook and an essay scaffold. I used it with an ASN S2 class but could be adapted for other levels.
Listening Resources
Three worksheets with questions and links to various short TED talks. I used these with National 4 in the run up to their listening assessment. There is also a generic BGE listening task which I used with various film trailers.
