Magnus Archives Podcast Creative Writing
A unit designed designed to strengthen listening and creative writing skills. The class will listen to several episodes of The Magnus Archives (a Rusty Quill podcast) and then write their own supernatural statement. I used this with an able S3 class but have also used the listenings with lower level sets for a bit of fun or when doing spooky writing at Halloween.
A Streetcar Named Desire Resources Higher
Various resources designed to support teaching Tennessee Williams’s play A Streetcar Named Desire. I used these with an S5/6 Higher class.
Includes a PowerPoint, one example essay and some revision worksheets.
Higher RUAE Materials
Includes a PP designed to teach different questions (own words, word choice, sentence structure, tone and the final question) as well as supplementary materials to test pupils’ understanding of what they’ve been taught. Includes practice materials for the final question as well as full practice papers.
To Kill A Mockingbird Play
A unit designed to teach the play adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird. Includes a PP and an essay plan. I used this with a top set S3 class but it could be adapted for other ages/levels.
Whispers in the Graveyard Unit
This is a PP unit designed to teach Theresa Breslin’s novel Whispers in the Graveyard. It also includes essay plans. I used this unit with a mixed ability S1 class but it could easily be adapted for other levels.

Christmas Media Studies
A collection of different media studies, all based on Christmas films. Includes two comparative essay units and four critical essay units.
Nativity/Nightmare Before Christmas Comparative Essay
A unit designed to teach the films Nativity! and The Nightmare Before Christmas leading to a comparative essay. Includes reviews for comparison. I taught this to a mixed ability S2 but it could easily be adapted for other levels.
Christmas Comparative Essay Elf/Home Alone
A unit designed to teach the films Elf and Home Alone. Works towards a comparative essay. The pupils will also read two reviews based on the films and compare those within their essays. I used it with an S3 class but could easily be adapted for other levels.
Revolver Marcus Sedgwick
A unit of work on the novel Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick. Also includes a simple essay plan. I used this with an S1 Literacy class but it could easily be adapted for other levels.
The Storm Suspenseful Writing
Includes a PP teaching the short story ‘The Storm’ by McKnight Malmar leading to a short piece of suspenseful writing. Designed to be a short unit to help improve creative writing skills.

Tally's Blood National 5 Scottish Set Text Resources
This is a PowerPoint and associated worksheets for teaching Ann Marie Di Mambro’s play Tally’s Blood as a Scottish Set Text for National 5 English. The PowerPoint also includes teaching the 8 mark question. Also includes a collection of 6 SST practices, including one without an 8 mark question and one with an extra 8 mark question.
Imagery in Poetry Edna St Vincent Millay Comparative Essay
This teaches two poems by Edna St Vincent Millay - Wild Swans & Ebb. It looks at the imagery used in both ans works towards a comparative AVU-type essay. I used it with a top S3 set but it could be adapted for use with other levels.
The Social Dilemma Listening
Questions for a class to answer while watching the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma. I used them with a mixed S3 class but they could easily be adapted for use at different levels. Also contains an answer guide.
Pacific Rim Film Study
A PowerPoint and essay plan designed to support the teaching of Guillermo del Toro’s film Pacific Rim. I used with a mixed S1 class but could be adapted for other levels.
Guy Fawkes
Associated resources surrounding Guy Fawkes night. Includes historical sources and scripts for the class to hold a trial as to whether Guy Fawkes was set up or whether he was guilty. Great for a wee bit of fun in the run up to December. I used it with S1 but could easily be adapted for other levels.
The Evil Within
A unit of work on Catherine MacPhail’s dyslexia-friendly novel The Evil Within. Focuses on literacy strategies. Includes a PP, a workbook and an essay scaffold. I used it with an ASN S2 class but could be adapted for other levels.
