I’ve made a simple template to plan schemes of work for Design Technology. It includes space for weekly lessons, CLEAPPS H&S, Links to the new GCSE 1-9 Specification as well as homework and assessment points. Really useful to use across a department to ensure consistency in planning and support staff in following project time restrictions.

DT learning journey - NEW OFSTED FRAMEWORK

LEARNING JOURNEY for DT (workshop / materials). Created using new Ofsted framework in mind, showing 5 year journey from year 7 through to 11. Links explicitly to the NC using DESIGN / MAKE / EVALUATE language, but with clear links to iterative design and AO’S for GCSE spec. (AQA). Icons sourced online , and template created in powerpoint for ease of adapting and scaling. Will print large scale to A3 / A2. I hope you find useful. This is specific to my department and the school context. Project based, with students also completing Food and Nutrition alonside thier lessons in DT. This is a student focussed reource, which will be printed large scale and be used as posters in classrooms, as well as given to students as part of thier assessment matrix. This for HOD is used to support curriculum map, detailing lessons and project objectives in more detail, alongside scheme of work overviews and lesson powerpoints for each project.

THEORY ORGANISER / REVISION TRACKER AQA GCSE DT

Theory content for GCSE DT (AQA) using the PG online contents to structure. I use these in students ring -binders from year 9 to organise their theory and allow topics to be ticked off once covered, with the chance to use the RAG rated columns to revisit for revision. Print out on different coloured sheets to act as dividers between all core / specialist theory content.

A C C E S S F M M - DISPLAY POSTER

ACCESS FMM may be an old tried and tested method, but I still think its a great acronym to get students to think about so many aspects of designing and evaluations. I made these as a quick resource for display in a new classroom. Print out A3, laminate & display in a reference point for students to engage with independently. Feel free to adapt the questions at the bottom!

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY BASELINE TEST KS3

(2)
After some research and necessary updating of our baseline test for year 7, I have created the following resource to encompass all of the areas within KS3 DT (for my department this is Product Design (timber, metal, plastics, electronics) F&N and Textiles. The resource is broken down in to a page roughly for each subject area, with focus on numeracy, measuring and basic use of equipment. Identification of tools and machinery in the department are also included as well as more detailed questions for F&N, including hygiene and a design based task to measure creativity, design skills etc. I have yet to develop a mark scheme for this, but the test has been made simple enough for marking to allow for peer assessment, with the design question being the only one that may require teacher critique. I hope you find it useful, please leave some feedback! Enjoy, GB
