The response would achieve Band 6 in the mark scheme because it has a conceptualised approach with a careful selection of judicious references from across the novel. There is fine-grained and insightful analysis of language
supported by judicious use of subject terminology as well as convincing exploration of contextual factors and different interpretations.
Supernatural in Macbeth - Walkthrough
A lesson that walks students through how to structure a high level Macbeth response on the theme of the supernatural.
It gives students the start of each paragraph and asks them to finish each off with analysis of methods and context.
It then goes over model examples for each section of the essay.
Also includes a prior learning activity and a timeline for knowledge retention to prepare for writing up the response.
Macbeth Visual Quotation Quiz
Students look at the 40 images and try to work out which quotation each image is referring to. This is great for quotation revision because students often come up with lots of different suggestions for each image.
The answer sheet is included too.
I use this as an end of term activity and invite students to colour in the images to help them remember each image.
Also includes a second activity with 100 key quotations all missing a key word that needs to be added.

Macbeth Full Play Annotated
104 PowerPoint slides containing annotations for the whole play - Macbeth. A great resource to accompany a reading of the play or to help students address gaps in their learning through absence. I originally created this resource to help some students who missed a large proportion of the curriculum due to absence.
Annotations are click activated so the teacher can talk through them one by one.
There are over 300 annotations covering every scene of the play. Obviously, I have prioritised the key moments from the key scenes for the most detailed annotations. The PowerPoint is fully editable so you can add extra annotations so you add, remove or change the amount of annotations to suit the ability of your students.
I have included a revision task sheet that encourages students to go through the PowerPoint and explain what is happening in each scene, explore the language in the key quotations and evaluate the thematic significance of the scene.

This lesson is perfect for a lesson in a school library to get students to think about opening their minds to new genres.
To prepare for the lesson you need 7 tables.
Each table must include 4-7 books in the following genres:

fantasy

In a carousel, students visit each table and make a note of the best opening, blurb and cover.

9 HIGH GRADE A CHRISTMAS CAROL EXAM RESPONSES
The collection has grown to 11 consistently thoughtful and sometimes perceptive and assured exam responses to A Christmas Carol. I am not going to claim they are grade 9 because the grade boundaries are volatile but all the essays are coherent, well-argued responses with thoughtful and often perceptive exploration of methods, word choices and writer’s wider ideas.
All responses have been formatted to snugly fit onto one page for ease of printing. I have made up my own extracts and questions. They include responses on places in the novel, Cratchits, Scrooge’s transformation, ghosts.
