A worksheet detailing all terminology and definitions for students to revise from for the area of study ‘Texture and Melody’. A powerpoint is also available which explains all terms with musical terminology and musical examples.
There is also a texture card matching activity where students must match a key word to a definition and then to a score and listening example (all audio is provided).
This lesson is focused on Paper 1 Question 3 (AQA - commenting on the structure of the whole text).

I have used a very short extract with lots of shifts which widen and narrow the focus - Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie.
Starter: Students rate their understanding of structural devices.
Construct: Students try to identify narrative shifts in focus in the text.
Main: Students look in more detail at the narrative shifts in the text.
This activity is in the form of an A3 table and is differentiated.
Bronze Level: Identify what is happening during each shift.
Silver: Apply structural devices.
Gold: Comment on the effect of structural devices.

An introduction to fusion lesson which includes listening and composition. All sections of the lesson are differentiated and helpsheets are provided. The Skye Waulking Song is used as inspiration for the composition task and includes the same chord sequence and scale.
Key stage 3 music steps which have been created using the new 1-9 scale. There are 4 strands: performing, composing, rehearsing and listening and appraising.
There are student friendly steps as well as statements that can be used for reporting purposes.
A3 sheets can also be used as a tracking tool by dating when each step has been achieved.
