A 36-slide PowerPoint presentation which starts with a Do Now activity and then goes through an introduction to phonics. It then goes through 16 common German phonic sounds for students to note down on a grid (included). It then asks students to try pronouncing some team members of the 2020 Women’s German National football team. There is also a short poem, and an activity to highlight the phonics covered in the lesson in the numbers up to 12.

A 30-slide PowerPoint presentation which starts with a Do Now activity and then introduces the idea of nouns and how they have different genders in German. It then introduces 12 items of equipment in the school bag. It then teaches whether to use “der”, “die”, or “das” or “einen”, “eine”, or “ein”. There are a couple of listening exercises, some short writing exercises, a reading comprehension, and some information about forming negatives with “kein/e/n”.

A 16-slide PowerPoint presentation which starts with a Do Now activity covering German topics covered so far. It then recaps the rooms of the house as a test, and students are reminded of sentences with a quick comprehension activity. There is then a lot of new verb infinitives (“essen”, “lesen”, “arbeiten” etc.) and a reminder about putting them in the “ich”-form. After that comes a reminder of the Dative Case for saying “in the attic”, “in the living room”, “in the kitchen” etc. before asking students to translate some first person sentences, plus a listening exercise to consolidate. There is then some information on irregular verbs, and the “ich”, “du”, “er/sie/es” and “wir”-forms of “essen”, “sehen”, “lesen”, and “schlafen”. There is a listening exercise to hear these in action, before a translation exercise to practise them. After that comes a gap-fill activity to put it together, and a writing exercise to put it all together.

A 14-slide PowerPoint presentation which starts with a Do Now activity covering German topics covered so far. It starts with an anagram activity to remind students of the words for some bedroom furniture, then reminds students of the correct words for “the” (at the start of sentences). It then introduces five prepositions (“neben”, “zwischen”, “in”, “auf”, and “unter”), and shows students the Dative Case in action with “a”, “the”, and “my”, with a grid to fill in (included). There then follows lots of practice - multiple choice quizzes, and then tasks asking students to form sentences using the Dative Case, prepositions and furniture. There is a drawing activity to show understanding of the words, a fun “Connect 4” activity where students have to translate phrases from this unit into German, and then a written task asking students to describe the position of the bedroom furniture in their room.
