200 French Speaking & Writing Prompts, suitable for Higher GCSE & beginner ALevel French students
Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French.
Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year, refreshers after vacation, prep for both new phase learning, for example intermediate to advanced intermediate, and even advanced intermediate to advanced, as well as exams. They’re great as both entrance and exit tickets, and also for five-minute refreshers, which I use quite frequently during the school year. Frequent and regular engagement with language is absolutely key to successful language learning.
Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work. There’s also a 2-pate prompts master list.
The prompts broadly address the following themes:
college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life

SPANISH BINGO PRIMARY SPANISH FRUITS VEGETABLES KS2 SPANISH FRUITS VEGETABLES BINGO KS3 SPANISH FRUITS VEGETABLES BINGO 200 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS AND 80 CALLING CARDS TWO SETS OF BINGO GAMES @ £2.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user only license. Please read the Terms of Use.
This bundle comprises two sets of 100 differentiated bingo grids and 40 calling cards Spanish and English so 200 bingo grids and 80 calling cards in total. I always play with English calling cards too, as I’ve found it’s a really great way of further consolidating vocabulary - students have to focus carefully on the language ‘switch’, and translate what they hear really quickly. It’s definitely useful to have calling cards, so that you can keep track of what you’re calling out, and it also lets students be the bingo caller too, meaning they can play entirely independently of the teacher.
There are twelve Spanish fruits in masculine, feminine, singular & plural:
green apple : lemon : oranges : peach : raspberries : pineapple : kiwi : pear : bananas : green grapes : strawberry : watermelon
and twelve Spanish vegetables in masculine, feminine, singular & plural:
mushrooms : cauliflower : carrots : lettuce : cucumber : tomato : cabbage : potatoes : garlic : broccoli : peas : onions
I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocabulary consolidation and recall, and listening skills. There are 80 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game. The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game.
I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 80 Spanish word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). There are 40 mixed word and picture grids are ideal for additional challenge and differentiation.

99 high-frequency Italian verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced KS3 Italian learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at GCSE Italian / KS4 Italian level. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises.
The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 verbs. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Italian. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in Italian. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook.
There are three differentiated recall challenges:
Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from an Italian prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, Italian-English.
Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from an Italian prompt, but the Italian verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order.
Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding Italian verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in Italian too.
We also use their notes to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which again is really useful, and a very popular activity with students too. The resource works best when used frequently and regularly - students should store their work carefully in a learning folder or file that they can refer to at any point to support their learning and revision. Students also note down any new, related vocabulary, which builds into a really comprehensive high-frequency Italian verb vocabulary bank in a very short space of time.

Ideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for English language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too! Bingo games are really easy to differentiate, and there is a range of differentiated grid formats to choose from: 12-square grids; 30-square grids; picture only and blend of words & pictures, providing learners with a real opportunity to practise all four language skills.
There are 100 grids in total, in both colour & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. These games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game.
This set of Christmas bingo games comprises the following:
40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. For additional challenge, students can play all four grids in a single game. Depending on the size of your class, you can have several winners per game. Colour and BW.
40 words & pictures bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Colour & B&W
10 picture-only 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Distribute the grids among students, several grids per student, which they choose randomly for every game. There should be several winners per game, depending on the size of the group. Colour & B&W.
10 words & pictures 30-square grids (A4 portrait format)
Calling card, featuring 32 English Christmas words. Print or photocopy double-sided to minimise prep. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. Students should also be the bingo caller, rather than always the teacher. As you call out words, remember to tick them on your calling card so that you can check the winners’ words - you’ll be able to use the same calling card for multiple games.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
ALEVEL ITALIAN KS5 ITALIAN GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN
This set of 36 facts cards focuses on the Italian language, and is a great whole-group learning activity at any time of the school year. They’re particularly useful as ice-breakers in the back-to-school phase, as it’s a very social activity, and really gets students up from their desks, walking around talking to each other.
The information addresses a broad scope of facts about the Italian language, from its history, various fields within linguistics to literature and politics, showing the role these have played over centuries in the development of what we know today as Modern or Standard Italian, and its status within the development of world languages generally.
The cards are designed for more advanced students, as the facts do require a certain level of world knowledge and language awareness, and particularly world geography. I always screen a world map first, situating Italy globally, and within Europe. I point out its regions, cities, islands and so on, because using the cards is also a great way of actually learning more about the world, more specifically Italy, its history, shifting geographical and political borders, migrating populations and so on. There are some essentially basic facts about the***Italian language*** too, such as information about its alphabet, and these kinds of facts help to consolidate students’ existing knowledge, alongside learning more complex or in-depth facts.
I use the cards in various ways: for example, a really popular method is the walk and talk activity, where students take a card each, walk around the classroom, exchanging facts - when they’ve shared the information on their card, students swap cards, and carry on walking — in this way, they encounter the same facts a couple of times, which really embeds knowledge. I tend to do this activity several times across the school year, following it up with an informal whole-group quiz, particularly when I feel that students need a break from more formal learning.
I also use the cards as either entrance or exit cards - again, followed by a quick quiz at several points in the year - simply turn the language on the individual cards into a question format. This works really well when students quiz each other, which moves them away from teacher-led learning towards more independent and social learning.

These Italian conversation cards are perfect for developing Italian speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on building conversation. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work - my students frequently select the speaking and writing cards for their free-choice learning activity. The prompt cards feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and into intermediate stages of their Italian learning, including a range of tenses. They’re also useful for GCSE Italian revision.
The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in Italian. Students find it a very useful learning support resources and it’s also handy for whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice. Students use the Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning - we use this to guide and inform discussions we have as a whole-group about where students think they are at the moment, and what they think they might like to work a little more on. They also note ideas for creating their own questions, and any new vocab or structures they might learn.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their Italian very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other, using the reference book as a form of writing frame to help them form their language correctly. This is a great team activity too. We also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with that work really well for us.

GERMAN PHONICS KS3 GERMAN PHONICS KS4 GERMAN PHONICS GERMAN PRONUNCIATION PRACTICE - TWO SETS OF 99 GERMAN WORD CARDS FOCUSING ON PHONICS, SOUNDS, SPELLING AND RHYMES WITH WHOLE-GROUP PRONUNCIATION PRESENTATIONS @ £3.50 EACH IN THE BUNDLE
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. They are copyright, all rights reserved. They may not be copied, shared, rewritten or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
There are 198 cards featuring a range of sounds in German, and a whole-group presentation and practice activity. Revisit the activities frequently to help students develop phonetic awareness and a thorough understanding of how German spelling and sounds work. Students are quickly able to recognize sound patterns, enabling them to predict the pronunciation of new words more accurately. The whole-group presentations are non-editable for copyright reasons, but move forward via a click as a slide show, with all the rhymes and corresponding sounds grouped together. This is also useful for starter and finisher activities throughout the school year.
Encourage students to look carefully at all parts of a particular word, not just the focus sound: for example Hochhaus - the focus sound is au, but the ch sound is equally important. The resource works well for my German students at all stages of learning, from beginner to advanced. We use the card template for students to add corresponding sounds/rhymes that they know, or learn, over time. Allocate 10-15 minutes frequently to focus on pronunciation and sounds - this really does help students develop authentic German pronunciation.
Laminate the cards if possible - it’s definitely quite a bit of prep, but it’s well worth it in the longer-term - they are far more learner-friendly, and will remain in excellent condition for years. There is also a set without background to save prep costs.

These Spanish Christmas Numbers 0-31 challenge cards are perfect for Primary Spanish and KS3 Spanish learners, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the term. The questions are entirely in Spanish, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in Spanish in general, and certainly in Spanish numbers and Spanish Christmas vocabulary in particular.
The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of Spanish - they are aimed at advanced beginner Spanish learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real Spanish Christmas theme, such as el turrón and las uvas, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson.
The Spanish Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in Spain, Spanish regions, and other Spanish-speaking countries too, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
= 48 differentiated question cards
= answer key & recording sheet
= question card template

The set features 25 high-frequency German verbs in the present tense. There are 6 worksheets, with three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations, in two design formats:
= Workbook Format: 10-page workbook, with cover page, verbs lists, six worksheets and Notes, Next Steps and New Verbs page, where students note any points they’d like to work more on, map their progress and list any new regular German verbs they learn, which helps them develop a really useful German verb bank.
= Worksheet Format: worksheets can be printed out individually, or as a pack without the cover page, verbs lists and progress template, useful for quick revision, refresher, starters / finishers, and also generally saves on prep costs
= answer key
The worksheets also address a broad range of vocabulary and grammar points, such as direct / indirect object pronouns, negative sentences and various question formats. Some sentences include modal verbs and subordinating conjunctions, to ensure that students can practise locating the verb or infinitive accurately. Students may not have engaged with all the language used at this stage, and this makes the activity equally about engaging with new language, as well as practising and reinforcing the current language focus.
There are three differentiated conjugation challenges:
= Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in sentence format across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding translation. Translating accurately is an important skill for language learners to engage with and master, and this kind of focused practice is really useful for them.
= Challenge 2: straightforward conjugation drill: each question gives a German infinitive and a target pronoun. Students write the corresponding German verb conjugation.
= Challenge 3: mirrors Challenge 1, with an increased challenge. Students write the German translation, and the infinitive of the key verb, from a basic English sentence, to ensure that they are able to produce as well as recognize both the correct conjugation and an accurate translation.

The Reference, Recall & Write workbooks have 18 pages, with an alphabetical French-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in French. My students use their recall workbooks quite a few times, simply covering previous answers. This means that prep and paper are kept to a minimum.
There are three written recall challenges in each workbook:
= Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category
= Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages
= Ideas, Notes and Next Steps encourages students to reflect on their progress
= Card template for creative and practical application of language
Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will last in excellent conditional for years.
