GCSE Organic Chemistry - Alkene Reactions

This a a good resource that delivers effectively the addition reactions of Alkenes and conditions as per the AQA Higher Level Specification. Animation to help learners to visually concentrate on the key aspects of the reaction.

AS/A2 Organic Chemistry - Dehydration of Alcohols (Mechanism)

(2)
Very effective power point which shows the dehydration reactions for different alcohols. The use of little animation to help those visual learners to remember the reaction with great confidence. I just used this and all my learners felt confident in answering exam questions on this. In this power point I have animated the mechanism for different types of alcohols. Emphasis placed on how the mechanism can lead to more than one product at times and which one that does not dehydrate. This is mainly catered for the AQA specification, but would benefit ANY board as gives the students a better understanding of mechanisms.
GCSE Mineral Acids & Organic Acids

GCSE Mineral Acids & Organic Acids

This PPT will cover very briefly ALL about acids and would be excellent not only as part of teaching through the year AND quick revision for the exam. Designed to cover the AQA GCSE triple science syllabus. Just delivered it to my students and all enjoyed it and opened to much discussion.

AS/A2 Organic Chemistry - Oxidation of Alcohols Summarised

I have created a one page summary of alcohols (Primary, Secondary & Tertiary). It also includes everything that a leaner needs to know to answer questions on these reactions. For example, colour change, conditions equations etc. Its very handy also for teachers to keep on file to aid there teaching. By adding more examples, this work sheet can help you plan at least 3 lessons.

A2 Born Haber Cycle: Calculation of Lattice Enthalpy (ALL boards)

This power point starts by looking at the steps the learners MUST be aware of and equations related to each step. It also has a handout to print out for the students to use once it goes into the FULLY ANIMATED, with sound effects, Born Haber Cycle. This adds an element of fun in the classes that ALL my students enjoyed. The sound effects keep the students alert at all times AND help the visual learners to understand whats going on. Its one of the best PPTs that I have created. In fact questions related to the BHC have been attempted with much better results in tests etc. I also got 100% pass rate in the main external exams from A* to C also (AQA Board). This is all also good for ALL main boards both in UK and USA.

I have attached my first PPT that involved a mechanism to download and check, which is why its much cheaper than the rest. I will be improving this sometime in the future and it will give teachers the quality of the PPT’s created. More importantly help teachers an idea , may be, to plan lessons on a area of chemistry that many learners struggle over and lose very simple marks. Hope you all find it useful as I have interleaved shapes of ions and Markovnikov’s principle.

AS Ionic Equations - summary

As an assessor for external I find that Ionic Equations are very easy marks for students to gain. However, its frustrating to see that very few correct answers are seen. I thought I make a ppt using my simple rules that I used as a student. This a FREE resource for helping to build a strong found on basic equations. I have also posted this on my You Tube channel for use, which I have attached here for use. I have included different chemical reactions and added some extra points to help you master ionic equations and extend your knowledge to conclude on TYPE of reactions also. Some tricky points that MOST students would struggle attached on this PPT.

Atomic Structure & Electronic Configuration - AS and A2

This is the second part of the electronic configuration PPT that I have made that will cover AS and A2 knowledge required - including the Aufbau and Hund’s principle. Stability of ions, filling of sub-shell including transition metals, etc. Hope it helps people.
Energy Calculation - Direct Method

Energy Calculation - Direct Method

I have made a PPT covering the principles of calculating energy change of reactions. My many years of experience I have noticed that question is done very poorly by many learners, many through simple mistakes that can be rectified very easily. I also covered the 3 main situations that are required. For each one I have explained the use of the equation required: ΔE = m c ΔT and then explained an example of each one. This question comes almost EVERY year in AS and A2 exam papers so it worth looking at. Use it as a complete lesson and then follow up with many compiled question from past papers. All the best. Your comments and reviews are welcomed. If there is anything you like me to cover and prepare is also welcome. Any review and a contact email will be rewarded with ANY one resource you like FREE of charge.
Combined Analysis - Spectral Analysis

Combined Analysis - Spectral Analysis

I am a NMR specialist and enjoy teaching anything to do with spectroscopy as its also gives some excitement in the class - a bit like solving a crime! ALL students enjoy trying to get to the answer first so gives students a level of a competition. My background was in Forensic Science so I also enjoy this, lol. I have attached a worksheet with an exam style question worth 28 marks and can be used as mini test, classwork after teaching Mass Spec, IR, high resolution NMR (proton and carbon), empirical formula. It also requires the 2,4-DNPH test knowledge and how to find the exact compound using the hydrazone. Your reviews, as always, will be appreciated as I can also make a worksheet for your personal use if you drop me an email in the review. I can email ONE free of charge. I have not included the answers to this as still working on it . IF you like to download it and want the please drop me your email with a review and I can email the answers FREE

AS/A2 Organic Chemistry - Mass Spectrometer

This PPT covers ALL the basic requirements for students to understand how to interpret Mass Spec for Elements (Metals & Molecules) and compounds. Clearly showing (via animation) fragments that are produced in the spectra. Addressing the M+ peak and the M+1 peak. Also, concluding the use of Mass spectra in answering exam question.

Another very effective resource that work wonders for my students. This resources tackles areas that many students struggle over as the animation used provides the students with the steps need to answer exam style question. Also covering many of the key aspects students struggle over.

AS/A2 Organic Chemistry - Stretch & Challenge Activity

This resource I created for those students who are very demanding and want to know why the bond angle of 109.5 exists for the tetrahedral shape. It could also be an excellent starter activity for say 10 min and also tick the box for numeracy box !! I used this this year encourage motivation and to prove it cannot be 90 degrees which otherwise learners find hard top accept. I have also attached the answers and the worksheet that can be drawn on the board OR printed out for the students.

I used this work sheet many years ago in class as an exercise for the students to practice. Its a word document that can be change and used. Has the answers also. Hope it helps !
