Revision summary sheet for C9, crude oil & fuels for AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy. Covers crude oil & hydrocarbons, fractional distillation, cracking and combustion.
3 tasks I set my Y7 and Y8 students for remote learning about the Rock Cycle. The students all drew the diagram of the rock cycle in their book. Higher ability annotated it with the clues AND added extra detail via the stretch questions, middle ability annotated without the stretch questions. I have included my attempt/modelling, which I attached to assist students with this task. Low ability drew a simpler diagram and copied & completed a gap fill (very low reading ages - some pre-reception).
High and mid ability then wrote a story/created a storyboard to describe the journey of a piece of rock at point 1, all the way through the cycle to point 12. This was followed by a Kahoot challenge and an educake quiz.
Rock Cycle Remote Learning 1 - higher ability
Rock Cycle Remote Learning 2 - middle ability
Rock Cycle Remote Learning 3 - lower ability
I have attached them as both PPT and PDF in case students have difficulty opening PPT at home.
This activity includes an information sheet which shows students how to complete dot-cross diagrams, and lots of examples to practice with. Answers in a separate file.
Electronic structure diagrams for the first 20 elements, up to and including Calcium. Feel free to use in any of your resources, either commercial or personal.
Information sheet on how the structure and bonding of ionic, covalent and metallic compounds influence their properties. Each section includes an example exam question. Designed for AQA GCSE Combined Science Trilogy C3 topic (Structure, Bonding & Properties of Matter). Could be used as part of an independent learning task.
Scaffolded worksheet that shows students how to answer questions on melting/boiling point and link these to structure and bonding. Includes examples for giant covalent, ionic, simple molecular and metallic. Students use their new skills to answer 4 real past exam questions. Good for revising C3 (Structure and Bonding).
Revision summary sheet for AQA Activate Energy Part 2 - includes heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation), work done and simple machines, along with some science skills.
Scaffolded worksheet on comparing the reactivity of 2 elements in the same group e.g. sodium and potassium. Sections on group 1 (and 2) and group 7 (and 6). Includes a diagram of relative atomic sizes for groups 1, 7 and 8.
I have linked a video I made to help students with this task.
Activity on predatory-prey cycles. Students can be given either the scaffolded worksheet or just the graph for them to describe and explain independently. Includes a food web/producers and consumers recap starter. Used with Activate 1 Interdependence and Plant Reproduction with a Y7 group.
Worksheet that helps students calculate work done, including finding distance and force needed. Used with low ability Y8 as part of Activate 2 - Energy part 2 (work and heating and cooling).
Selection of activities for teaching about the earth’s early atmosphere and how it changed, including a storyboard with answers, cloze activity with answers, and 2 exam-style questions (short questions or a 6-mark) with suggested mark schemes.
Covers 4.9.1.2 of AQA GCSE Chemistry (the earth’s early atmosphere).
Storyboard - life & atmosphere. AQA GCSE Chemistry, 5.9 Chemistry of the Atmosphere, 5.9.1.3 How oxygen increased & 5.9.1.4 How carbon dioxide decreased. Answer sheet included.
