I love creating resources and spend far too much time doing it. Currently teaching mostly A-level English Literature, but there are a range of free and paid resources for all ages. I believe in challenging students with a range of ambitious material, but also believe that this needs to be underpinned by explicit direction on HOW students can develop their ideas in written form. Write better... think better... think better...write better... and so on.

A selection of a few bits:- Lesson plan and resource comparing Crooks and Curley's wife as one of the weak ones- Scaffolded chart to compare George and Lennie- Essay title and guidance for George and Lennie in chapters 1 and 2- Character chart on all characters in novel; completed by me; exploring their significance to plot and to themes. You could give this to students or delete and get them to fill in it- you'll have the answers ready-done!

Lesson (fully explained in PowerPoint) on Anglo Saxon poetry more generally (linked into Beowulf); with a focus on kennings. Homework activity uses modern kennings poem as a model and lets them have a go at writing their own.Lots of fun! A plethora of resources for teaching Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber... powerpoints, resources and tasks. Taught for OCR A-level English Literature as part of Gothic comparative and contextual study (to be taught alongside Frankenstein) but would work equally well as stand-alone for other components or as a coursework text. You also have here some extract question activities on presentation of 'the other' in Gothic literature and some teaching material and activities on Bram Stoker's 'Dracula', focusing particularly on narrative form and perspective. NB Puss in boots not there - we just read and discussed as it doesn't fit as part of our unit so we covered it unofficially) and the final three worksheets are designed by students - I got them to prep their own in the style of mine.... they did pretty well but if you are not going to adopt the same approach, I would check them before using as may need some editing. We then used them as teaching resources in a sequence of university seminar style sessions.

I love, love Ted Hughes and finally, I got to teach 'Birthday Letters' as a coursework text this year. . . very little in the way of teaching resources exists so I've created some. Here's an introductory powerpoint on Hughes and a very comprehensive guide to 'Birthday Letters' - absolutely indebted to Erica Wagner's brilliant book on BL, 'Ariel's Gift...' as well as other miscellaneous activities.I've got to say, I've never taught something that the students have truly LOVED so much. Give it a go...

Using the excellent material provided by AQA and the TES, i put together powerpoints/ activities for the poems in the 'Relationships&' anthologies. They include activities, information, audio, video links. \n\nYou can pick them up and go. The only one missing is &';To His Coy Mistress' as we approached that in a different way and also, i think some of the audio might be mixed up (don&'t know how or why?!) so do check before you go into lessons.

Powerpoint should be explanatory but: a starter activity on semiotics to get them thinking about signification (interesting links can be drawn between boom of advertising in 1920s). Then group work focusing on the opening description of The Valley of Ashes and first intro to Myrtle and Wilson. \nPlenary activity on magical realism of Fitzgerald (taken from EMC guide) and then a homework essay, closely analysing this passage.(with OCR objectives but could be adapted for other boards)
