This worksheet is the first in a series of two designed to increase students' familiarity with Edexcel's Large Data Set, required for the new linear A Level. It also provides practice of some of the sampling techniques in the new A Level specification. It can be completed as a homework task as it requires no specialist software beyond a spreadsheet. Answers are provided. The second worksheet is also available from my TES shop and is of the same format but covers different statistical skills. You can buy both sheets as a bundle for a discount.

This matching activity enables students to practise factorising expressions in order to simplify algebraic fractions. The types of factorising covered are: taking out a common factor,quadratics where the coefficient of x^2 is 1 and the difference of squares. Students cut up the cards and stick them onto the answer grid in pairs of equivalent fractions. Students are encouraged to justify their answers by giving an explanation for why they have matched each pair.

In the first activity, students must identify the ‘Odd One Out’ in each group of expressions involving surds.
