Math Core 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(83)
This set of powerpoints go with the Edexcel textbooks and cover the entire Core 2 course from start to finish. Pupils can use these for revision or you can use them to deliver lessons! The sheets are just of exam questions and can be used as end of unit tests or as a starting point for revision... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)\nEDIT: 7/6/14 - Added Mark Schemes to the worksheets!

Math Mechanics 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(30)
As with my other resources for A-level, these are made to go with the Edexcel course and textbooks, and cover the whole of M2. The worksheets are a good starting point for exam preparation as they split the course up - better than sending them straight onto papers with all different topics on! If you like this then please check out my other resources on TES!\nEDIT 9/6/14: Added Mark Schemes to the worksheets!
Planning Flights
Owen134866Owen134866

Planning Flights

(24)
This is based on something I saw on the TES a while ago, but I couldn't find it again! The pupils have to plan flights on various continents using Bearings to work out the direction of travel, and Speed, Distance and Time calculations. There is a worksheet with choices of continents as well as a sheet of estimated answers! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Using one graph to solve another
Owen134866Owen134866

Using one graph to solve another

(23)
This is a topic that is quite hard to explain but hopefully this 2 lesson sequence will help. Pupils should already know how to plot linear and quadratic graphs and this builds up to using the graph of one equation to solve a different one. Everything needed is here but you will need to write on the powerpoint in parts. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Solving Inequalities
Owen134866Owen134866

Solving Inequalities

(23)
Two lessons on solving inequalities. One with just the algebra and the second includes forming them from worded situations. The powerpoints have been made to go with exercises from 10 Ticks that are indicated on the title screen. If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Equivalent Fractions Game
Owen134866Owen134866

Equivalent Fractions Game

(17)
Pupils roll dice and simplify the fractions they get on the grid, with the person with the biggest fraction getting a point. I usually play 10 rounds and then pupils move round and play someone else. They can also discuss at the end whether the game was fair and how to determine whether it was or wasn't. Sometimes if the class is small I record results on the board (like football scores) and get them to draw a up a league table! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Volume and Surface Area of a Sphere
Owen134866Owen134866

Volume and Surface Area of a Sphere

(19)
Pupils learn to calculate the volume and surface area of spheres using the relevant formulae. There is a selection of harder questions to challenge the more able on the sheet. In the powerpoint is a link to a demonstration of the formula (not involving calculus as students studying this topic most likely will not have encountered this yet!). The video is NOT my own work - credit goes to mathematicsonline for that! If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Forming and Solving Equations
Owen134866Owen134866

Forming and Solving Equations

(46)
Pupils create equations from worded scenarios. The Powerpoint has a number of examples to use which you will need to write on, as well as a starter, plenary and worksheet with answers! :) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Functions
Owen134866Owen134866

Functions

(22)
These 4 powerpoints have been made for the Cambridge IGCSE course and cover the section on functions. Pupils learn about function notation and what it means, and see how to approach problems involving composite and inverse functions. The textbook has the relevant exercises! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Changing Recurring Decimals into Fractions
Owen134866Owen134866

Changing Recurring Decimals into Fractions

(15)
Two lessons of material on the above topic. Pupils should already have covered changing a terminating decimal into a fraction (eg) 0.7, 0.18 etc) before they start this. Also depending on the group it might be a good idea to get them to discover the 'ninths&' patterns for themselves! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Geometrical Square Rooting
Owen134866Owen134866

Geometrical Square Rooting

(15)
Pupils learn how to estimate square roots of numbers using only a pencil, ruler and a pair of compasses. Originally discovered by Rene Descartes, it is based around Pythagoras' Theorem (a proof is included in the powerpoint). If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Secret Agent Loci
Owen134866Owen134866

Secret Agent Loci

(16)
Pupils imagine they are a secret agent. They have to get across each map without being detected by guards or security cameras. To do this they construct Loci to show which areas are safe and which aren't. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!\n\nIMPORTANT NOTE: When the pupils start the task, say that the task is to show the areas which are UNSAFE. If you say they need to find a safe route through, they will all just estimate it without using the Loci!
Puzzle of the Week
Owen134866Owen134866

Puzzle of the Week

(12)
Each of these documents contains 30 puzzles which I have used over 3 academic years as 'puzzle of the week&'. I have a folder on the wall and pupils help themselves to printouts and they hand them into a box in my room, receiving merits for correct answers. Many of the puzzles are not necessarily my own work, just things I have found over the years! Its worth mentioning that they aren&';t all Maths-based, although most are... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)\nEDIT: 1/12/14 Added year 3!
Plotting Straight Line Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Plotting Straight Line Graphs

(25)
Pupils are shown how to plot straight line graphs by finding coordinates. Also includes a possible application in videogames (It probably does not work exactly as shown, but it can still show the topic as 'useful'!) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Gradients on a curved graph
Owen134866Owen134866

Gradients on a curved graph

(13)
Aimed at pupils studying the IGCSE, this lesson shows them how to estimate the gradient at points on a curve by drawing tangents. Includes a worksheet with answers (I'd strongly recommend they use the scale stated on the horizontal axis, otherwise the graphs get a bit squashed together!) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Linear Programming
Owen134866Owen134866

Linear Programming

(9)
2 powerpoints to help with the teaching of Linear programming. They contain starters, main activities and plenaries, and have been made to go with the Cambridge IGCSE course and textbook. Of course they could be adapted though! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Midpoints of Quadrilaterals
Owen134866Owen134866

Midpoints of Quadrilaterals

(7)
Lesson where students learn to calculate the midpoint between two coordinates, but then apply this to sides of shapes on coordinate axes and discuss what they notice. Could be extended to more polygons and the more able can try to explain the 'why' behind the patterns they find. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :) https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?authorId=2095097
Sangaku Problems
Owen134866Owen134866

Sangaku Problems

(2)
Based on Dan Walker's resource I saw a while ago (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/san-gaku-6384597), I then made a set of Sangaku Problems - great to use in the build up to the UKMT challenges! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/search/?f=authorId%5B2095097%5D
Scale Drawings of Buildings
Owen134866Owen134866

Scale Drawings of Buildings

(12)
Pupils have to use the heights of one building to estimate the heights of others, and produce sketches of several well known buildings to scale. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Graph transformation by substitution
Owen134866Owen134866

Graph transformation by substitution

(14)
Pupils become familiar with the f(x) notation and what some of the transformations actually mean in terms of the function itself. They then change a function based on the transformation and plot the corresponding values so they can see its effect. There is most likely several lessons of work here and it is broken into separate sections. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
