I have a wealth of resources that are aimed primarily at KS4 and KS5; however, there are some useful KS3 tasks that have been uploaded this year. Topics at KS5 include: Russia and its Rulers, 1855-1941; Later Tudors, 1547-1603; Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries; Italian Unification, 1830-1870; and Germany, 1890-1990. As well as History, I also have a few resources relating to Geography and ICT that some users may find helpful.

Elizabeth I: Religious Opposition

(0)
Detailed handouts on religious opposition facing Elizabeth I, most notably Presbyterians, Jesuits, recusants and Seminary Priests. This fits in perfectly with any A Level course covering Elizabeth's reign, for example OCR's Later Tudors unit, and would be ideal as a alternative to the hefty text book. Please also see my other resources on this topic.
Coastal Defences
PaulMidPaulMid

Coastal Defences

(0)
Resources relating to a Year 8 Geography lesson on coastal defences. Included is a PowerPoint presentation where students are introduced to the different types of sea defences that are available (encourage comments on cost, appearance, suitability etc.) Students can then use the worksheets to decide how they would defend the coast line of Hornsea (I laminated the map so they could draw on their ideas with whiteboard pens). You could stretch G&T students by applying costs to the different types of defences and giving them a budget, or you could throw a curve ball such as: 'residents have said they do not want sea walls'. These are great resources for introducing coastal defences and students can then begin to compare the benefits/limitations of each.
Microsoft Excel: Formulae and Functions

Microsoft Excel: Formulae and Functions

(0)
Included are two resources that could be used for a full lesson on formulae and functions in Excel. This would be ideal as an introductory lesson. Students can be given the card sort (laminated) in pairs and must construct various formulae/functions based on teacher instructions. The class can then discuss what 'punctuation' is always the same and can differentiate between a formula and function. Then they can test out their skills, pretending they are the owner of an ice cream shop. They are given a set of sales data for November and must complete various tasks (using formulae, functions and assessing the data). Answers have been provided on the original Excel document. I have given the pupil instructions as a Word file as one key area of learning for me is having students type out information accurately; however, you can easily give them the original Excel file instead.

Word Processing Task
PaulMidPaulMid

Word Processing Task

(0)
A word processing task to introduce students to basic formatting techniques and to encourage accuracy (something that is required in all national assessments). Students have to write out a block of text before formatting it using a set of instructions. More able students will be able to follow the instructions to create an automatic file name and to edit the content in the header/footer. This can be edited for KS2; however, it is primarily suited to Year 8 and Year 9. Instructions have been included for each step so that less able students can be prompted on how to complete the task.
Microsoft Word: Manipulating Text

Microsoft Word: Manipulating Text

(0)
A task to improve students' knowledge of Microsoft Word; this is ideal practice for the OCR CLAIT Qualification. Students are presented with a piece of text on the history of the goldfish. They must follow the instructions to format and edit the document. I have provided an answer sheet which shows the finished product; students can compare their work with this at the end of the task. Students are asked to cut and paste; insert text; find and replace text etc. An extension activity could be to get students to create their own instructions for a partner to follow.

These resources relate to the AQA GCSE History unit, Britain: Health and the People. Many of the tasks require the blue textbook from Hodder that accompanies the course. Included are two worksheets and a PowerPoint presentation (with questions), all relating to modern public health. Topics include: housing, free school meals, the NHS and the welfare state. These worksheets are not comprehensive of this section of the text book and are intended to supplement existing work on these topics. Nevertheless, they are useful worksheets to bring into classwork or as homework.

Rivers Keywords and Flood Defences

(0)
Resources to be used as part of a Year 7 Geography lesson on flooding/flood defences. Small groups of students are each given a card with a reason for flooding; they must explain in their groups why that factor may increase/decrease the risk of flooding (then rotate the cards and feedback as a class). I have included an information sheet to be given out alongside this (can easily be turned into a gap fill!) Also included is a PowerPoint presentation with the different types of flood defences. Students can complete a comparison table of each defence based on its cost, lifespan, appearance etc. and rank the defences.

A detailed handout covering the AQA GCSE topic, From Tsardom to Communism: 1914-24, along with a corresponding gap fill exercise.
