Design your own fairground theme park! This area and perimeter task will provide your children with an engaging activity where they will want to work out the area of each ride so they can place it in their own theme park. The task sheet provides children with different styles of area questions, some need to be measured, others with given sides and then the option of irregular sizes which will require children to create compound shapes. The children can choose where to place their rides and how the spacing of their rides is important and why area skills fit into the context of real world problems. As an additional task, they can solve the perimeter of each of their rides. This game is called Back to the Fractions and is designed for children in Year 4, 5 or 6 who are learning how improper fractions can be turned into a mixed number (a.k.a. mixed fractions). The aim of the game is to completely fill your template card of fraction amounts until the improper fraction given has been made. You do this by rolling a die, moving said amount, and each time they land on a colour rectangle, they can colour that related fraction segment on their template card.
