Beginner division speed math worksheets introducing/reinforcing division as being the inverse of multiplication - "Think multiplication" (to do division)
Files - 'speed division inverse of multiplication_worksheet1' & 2 present multiplication turnaround facts followed by matching inverse division facts in groups of 4.
e.g.
5 x 2 =
2 x 5 =
10 ÷ 2 =
10 ÷ 5 =
File - 'speed division inverse of multiplication_using multi to divide_missing multiplier2_4_6_8_9'
Present only one multiplication followed it's inverse division, in columns of facts for 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9 times tables:
e.g.
2s Facts
2 x ___ = 18
18 ÷ 2 =
2 x ___ = 14
14 ÷ 2 =
Other worksheet presents mixed problems with the multiplication having the missing multiplier
e.g
2 x ___ = 18
18 ÷ 2 =
Students are therefore encouraged to 'think multiplication' when doing division.
Posters for students to set class/school goals, with a space below each for them to list the steps they will need to take to achieve their goals.
4 versions:
3 pdf files with sassoon font: one with lines, one with numbers, and one with numbers and only 2 callout bubbles.
1 word doc with comic sans.
I will edit the documents and replace 'my' with the name of the student and print one off for each child in my class. Plus one for myself, so that I can set some personal (teaching) goals for myself.
I will also print out a large 'to achieve by xx/xx/xxxx' so that the goals are time sensitive and display this alongside the student's posters.
Also included some display headings, quotes, and stars to make a classroom display.

8 Mental Strategies for Multiplication
These thoughtfully made PowerPoints are carefully designed to help students grasp commonly taught multiplication strategies ( and tricks) for x0, x1, x2, x3, x4, x5, x8, and x9 times tables. Ideal for years 3 and 4, but also helpful for year 5 and 6.
To multiply by 2 = double the number
To multiply by 3 = double the number and add a set
To multiply by 4 = double, then double again.
To multiply by 5 = multiply by 10 then halve
To multiply by 8 = double-double-double
To multiply by 9 = use your fingers/ the digits of answer added = 9
To multiply by 0 = the answer is always 0
To multiply by 1 = the answer is always that same number.
All the PowerPoints include examples to 12 and extensions to large multiplications to show that the strategy really comes in useful for doing tricky mental multiplication.
Please see video for a taster.
All slide animations are activated when you click the mouse, giving teacher and student thinking and explaining time. Video is sped up to get through the examples.

Partner worksheets allow children to work and learn with a peer, taking it in turns to write the focus grapheme, they then read the word to their friend who listens and ticks the check circle next to the word when it is read correctly, the friend then re-reads the word to get their check circle ticked. Using different coloured pencils makes it easy to see that children have been taking turns. An extension is to take it in turns drawing sound buttons under each example word. Highly effective and enjoyed by children.
I have also uploaded a corresponding version of each worksheet without check circles if you wish to use them as individual work.
Each word illustrated with extra clear black & white clipart, therefore easy to photocopy and for children to colour.
