I am an Art and Design teacher specialising in traditional and digital illustration, animation and painting. Currently teaching in Manchester. KS3 + KS4 resources for various areas of Art and design. Many sources are suitable for both GCSE and BTEC courses. These resources are currently taught in an 11-18 non-selective school so are suitable for a broad range of abilities. Year 10 and Year 11 unit of work. Workshop based 2D 3D making such as grid drawing, watercolour, continuous line, collage, drawing with wire, paper mache heads and 3D ceramic work all based on portraiture. Various approaches for all abilities. Pupils will go on to produce their own piece of work in response to the topic and the artists they have studied. Has been taught to both AQA GCSE and BTEC students and has been successful in achieving high grades for pupils in both exam boards.

A comprehensive resource suitable for KS3 and KS4 students focusing on Ocean Conservation inspired by BBC’s Blue Planet II. The project is currently being taught to a Y8 group, however it is structured to reflect a GCSE Art and Design project so could be taught to KS4 also. The project should run for one term. The Powerpoint includes homeworks, starters, plenaries and an image pack at the end for visual resources for pupils. Tasks include: Coloured pencil drawing, recycled plastic fish sculptures, creative pattern/mark making, oil pastel, collage and research into artists such as: Iain Macarthur, Ande Hall and contextual research into the charity Washed Ashore. The project has proven to be a really successful issue-based scheme of work which pupils have thoroughly enjoyed studying. They have produced very successful and creative work in response to this theme and at least 2 lessons taught from this project have recently been graded Outstanding.

Cross-curricular project with History looking at propaganda posters from WW2. Pupils begin by drawing WW2 related objects from primary source and develop design ideas for a final polyprinted WW2 poster. Lesson objectives/outcomes, plenaries and homeworks are included. Project lasts roughly 4-6 weeks depending on the number of Art lessons per week. Attached is also a homework booklet where pupils are asked to analyse the propaganda posters created by Abram Games and spellings which can be set for homework. Suitable for KS3. Original propaganda polyprinting process was from Kate Irving who shared the resource on the NSEAD Facebook group. WW2 matchboxes included as homework were also shared by Louie Clazey from Norton College on Pinterest.

A comprehensive Art and Design scheme of work aimed at Y7/Y8 and designed to last approximately 10-12 weeks based on teaching 1 hour per week. Uses fairly basic materials so good for departments with limited resources, but can be adapted to suit more ceramics, 3D work and computer based design too. A 1-2 hour lesson suitable for Year 7 & Year 8 focusing on the photographer Karl Blossfeldt and tonal pencil shading techniques. This lesson was graded a 1 (Outstanding) in a recent observation. Lesson includes: Do it now task, homework, starter activity and plenary. There is information about the artist included, pencil grading, exemplar material and peer assessment slides to allow students to assess their progress. This lesson could be taught in one hour but can also be extended over 2 hours. Tonal pencil starter sheet and peer assessment sheet are also included. The lesson has been differentiated for high and low ability pupils but other differentiation (e.g. tonal scale finder) could be used in order to help students see and understand values. This lesson is currently taught within a Natural Forms scheme of work.

A step-by-step guide of how to draw a realistic eye, including Do-it-Now task, Starter, Main Activity and Plenary, as well as common mistakes made by students. This is an ideal lesson for KS3, although it could also be taught to KS4. Leveled examples are also provided to guide students in self assessment of their work. Also included is a worksheet ‘placemat’ that students can work on to ensure a smooth transition between tasks and a PDF version of the Powerpoint file as some formatting issues can occur due to the types of fonts used in the original presentation. This lesson was graded 1 (Outstanding) in a recent observation. Shows rapid and sustained progress in one hour.

An extensive and detailed scheme of work based on the artist Hundertwasser, the environment and architecture. The scheme of work is designed to last apprximately 20-24 weeks based on 1 hour per week. It includes 2D illustrative and 3D ceramic techniques as main outcomes, but these can be adapted if your school does not have clay facilities. There are also theory lessons included to teach pupils how to analyse and write about the artwork. Homework, graded examples and extension tasks are all included.

A GCSE SOW usually taught in Year 10. Covers the AQA Assessment Objectives although it could easily be adapted to fit other exam board requirements. Introduces students to making a Concertina Sketchbook and different drawing techniques focusing on plants and animals, for example continuous line, tonal pencil, mono-printing and coloured pencil studies. Has several suggested artists for contextual research. The project itself allows students to have a lot of freedom to explore the topic and experiment with a wide range of materials and processes. Also has a 3D clay outcome included which could be used as an extension task towards the end of the project. This project will easily last from September-December, if not longer.

SOW produced for a Year 10 BTEC/GCSE group, focusing on fine art textiles processes. Could be used for any Ks4 class, or even Year 9. Begins with drawing/painting skills and incorporates batik, shibori, weaving, felt-making processes in addition. This project runs from September - January but could be shortened by taking out some techniques. Has BTEC and GCSE assessment objectives written in, as I teach this to a class learning both endorsements. Numerous sketchbook examples, examples of levelled final pieces and weekly homework is also included.

I have written a ‘Think about this’ slide for each question giving additional ideas and suggestions to students. I have designed this Powerpoint so as not to overwhelm pupils, so it is concise enough to hod their attention but detailed enough to guide them towards extended areas of research. It is editable so that you can add additional slides if you wish to do so.

Pupils begin by drawing a series of personal objects from primary source. Pupils research and respond to several artists, learning how to create a successful sketchbook and body of work focusing on ‘Identity’ and 2D techniques. Techniques include pencil, coloured pencil, oil pastel and watercolour, as well as teaching pupils about the design process, Assessment Objectives and annotation skills. Pupils learn how to plan and design a final piece, taking inspiration from one of their chosen artists. Unit of work designed primarily for KS4 GCSE/BTEC, although it could easily be adapted to use for KS3 also. Designed as an introductory ‘workshop’ course for pupils starting BTEC/GCSE in Year 9/10, focusing on basic 2D drawing and painting skills. Homeworks are included. This scheme of work is taught from September-December.
