This particular workbook is based around the Painting and Decorating Trade and subtly embeds many of the Functional skills required for assessment. Thislevel is pitched around E3
The workbook includes 4 main tasks and are broken down as follows;
Task 1 – Know the basic terms and language used within the Painting and Decorating trade.
This task requires learners to build a glossary of some of the commonly used terminology when Painting and Decorating. This can be completed over a set period as you gain further understanding of the trade.
Task 2 – Show your knowledge of the Basic Tools and Materials used in Painting & Decorating.
This task requires learners to identify some of the many tools and materials used every day in the trade, followed by an understanding of how, why and what they are used for.
Task 3 – List the stages required to prepare a Painting and Decorating area.
This task requires learners to become familiar with how to prepare a painting and decorating workspace effectively, demonstrate knowledge of the various steps and the best order in which to carry them out.
Task 4 – Confirm an understanding of Health and Safety when Painting and Decorating.
This task requires learners to recognise the hazards and dangers relevant to working in a Painting and Decorating environment and know how to minimise any risks of injury or illness to yourself and others.
The 4 tasks can be completed in any order and each page of the Workbook can be signed off as and when the candidate has met the criteria.
The workbook includes answers, although this is guidance for Tutors or Assessors only as the answers could be open to interpretation and differ depending on the context.

Being on time - A eye opening activity where learners will use maths skills to determine the amount of time lost at school, work and College through poor punctuality. Scenarios given.
Q&A - A series of thought provoking questions that learner will answer individually and then take part in a group discussion to share thoughts and opinions.
Attendance and Punctuality Task - Learner are given a scenario that requires them to Propose, Produce and Promote an Incentive and reward scheme to help improve Attendance and Punctuality in a struggling primary school. The task then requires them to present their schemes with the rest of the group and even display in their ideas in the classroom.
SHOULD ANIMALS LIVE IN THE ZOO focuses on the controversial issue of Animals in Captivity and requires learners to demonstrate their capabilities of understanding the opinions of others as well as being able to put their own opinion across. The Brain Game series offers a fun and enjoyable way to exercise learner minds and improve their English and Maths skills using a variety of different puzzles.
This bundle includes the following;
Brain Game #4 - Word Connections requires learners to identify the word that conjoins either before or after three given words.
Example: FAIRY - MILK - PASTE Answer TOOTH =TOOTHFAIRY - MILKTOOTH - TOOTHPASTE. They can also earn extra points by finding other valid relevant connections. i.e. TOOTHACHE.
Brain Game #5 - Guess the Animals requires learners to identify the animal using the 5 clues. The quicker they guess the correct answer and the fewer clues they use, the more points can be earned.
Brain Game #6 - Food Match - Learners will be shown a food item, they then need to think of another item that is often paired with that food i.e BREAD & BUTTER.
The aim, however, is not to guess the obvious as you will only earn a point if your chosen food is not revealed, for example if they guessed ‘JAM’ instead.
Extension idea - Learners can earn extra points for as many other suitable and valid alternative food matches

Task 1 requires learners to decide on how much of their winnings they would gift, if any, to a charity and/or family and friends. This offers an effective platform for discussion around charities, generosity and their individual value of money.
Task two requires the learner to select from a list of items and how they would spend the remaining money. They will write reasons for their choices and share with the rest of the group, which is a great opportunity for speaking and listening and finding common interests within the group.
Task Three asks the learners to complete a shopping list and to include costs and keep a running total of their remaining balance.
The final objective is to get as close to spending 1,000,000 as possible. Calculator use is down to the discretion of the Tutor and the ability of learners.
WHATS ON THE BOX
Learners will work with a Fictional TV guide.
They will study the schedule and then attempt to answer a series of questions related to the information shown. They will then take part in a discussion based on their own favourite TV programme choices. They will create their own Perfect TV schedule, produce questions related to this new timetable and then test their peers.
SMARTIES INVESTIGATION
Learner focus on investigating number and frequency using a tube of Smarties.
Their task is to gather data and produce a bar chart showing their findings.
Learners will then take part in a speaking and listening task that requires them to extract data from other groups allowing them to be able to produce a second chart and accurately present this collective data.

This Flashcards Bundle evidences ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted Macbeth as a Tragic Hero (set 1), used the supernatural to develop characters (set 2) and intorduce the theme of guilt and anxiety in the play. (Set 3)
Set 1 - The quotes, one from each act evidence ways in which Shakespeare has used the supernatural to develop characters and also to move forward the plot. However, each quote also has relevance to other themes.
Set 2 - The quotes, one from each act, evidence ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted Macbeth as a tragic hero.
A tragedy play in Shakespeare’s time begins with qualities in a hero that are admired. The hero is loved and there is an element of celebrity and role model.
Then a weakness is highlighted and manipulated to bring down the hero with tragic consequences.
Set 3 - The quotes, one from each act, evidence ways in which Shakespeare has highlighted the theme of guilt and anxiety in the play.
It is interesting in Macbeth that Macbeth as a military general had no difficulty in applying violent acts to kill his enemy but could not handle emotionally or mentally the murder of King Duncan.
This brings into play questions of right and wrong and integrity and honour.
