WHOLE LESSON: FOUNDATION SIMPLIFYING EXPRESSIONS VIA PERIMETER

Lesson 2 in a series of lessons on simplifying expressions. This is a classic scenario where students are asked to find an expression for the perimeter of a shape. The powerpoint walks the students around the shapes and writes out the expression as we go. The fully differentiated resource allows students to write on the sheet (no need for drawing the shapes). One star is very basic with all sides having simple expressions. Two and three star have multi-term expressions on the edges and the rectangles have only the length and breadth shown. Answers not included.

WHOLE LESSON: FOUNDATION INTRODUCTION TO COLLECTION OF TERMS UNDER ADDITION

A complete lesson in a series of 4 lessons that will take foundation students through the art of simplifying expressions. This starts with simple collection of terms such as a + a + 3a and 2a +4 + a - 4. The powerpoint uses dials (animated) to count the items as the expression is walked through. The fully differentiated resource that accompanies starts with one star (multi-choice) and progresses through to 3 star which simplifies expressions involving squares and negatives which students always think involve changing the power. Answer not included

5 FOUNDATION MOCK EXAMINATION/REVISION PAPERS ON 2 PIECES OF A4

Five assessments that I use to help prepare foundation students (or younger students) for end of year assessments. Based on old GCSE foundation papers the assessments cover all of the content of the GCSE (around 20 questions in each). They are printed on 8 sheets of A4 which I copy onto an A5 booklet, hence using only 2 sheets of paper and saving a lot of paper. Great for use at extra sessions, as homeworks, as class revision, or for filler lessons for absent staff. I have included a powerpoint of the first assessment so you can see what they look like.

MATCHING GAME: PERCENTAGE OF AMOUNT-5 DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES

An excellent way to finish a lesson. Print off a grid with 20 questions at the top and 20 answers at the bottom. The students work out the question and find the answer. The topics covered are percentages of amounts (easy, medium and hard), calculator percentages and percentage via multiplier. Easy to mark. Can be used as a quick Answers not included on some of them.

INTRODUCTION TO LINEAR PROGRAMMING

Two lessons that introduce the concept of shading regions on a 2D plane to help solve linear programming examples in the Decision 1 module of A level maths. The first lesson is simple shading out of regions and then the students are introduced to the concept of a linear programming problem, maximising profit. All powerpoints are fully animated to show shading and the solutions sets, all resources are printed so that students can draw straight on the graphs.

FOUNDATION REVISION HOMEWORK 1 and 2

(0)
Two homework books which can be printed off as a A5 booklet on a single sheet of A4 paper to test the foundation knowledge of your students. The powerpoint in the preview is the actual first booklet. The questions are things that students need to know. Can be used as a revision aid or at extra sessions in school.

15 minute assessments that can be used as homeworks, assessments in class or revision. Each tests the basic recall in the following number topics: factors, fractions of amounts, percentages of amounts, multiplying by 100/1000, percentage recognition, square numbers, addition, patterns, subtraction, division and multiplication

WHOLE LESSON: FOUNDATION DIVISION OF QUANTITY IN A RATIO

(0)
Whole lesson to low ability students on division in a ratio. The powerpoint contains several ways of teaching the topic but the resource that accompanies it goes with the traditional ADAM method (add, divide and multiply). The resource is fully differentiated and provides a lot of support with no context at 1 star, going through to fully contextualised questions with no support at 3 star. There is a multi choice homework that accompanies the lesson also.

OLD SPEC EDEXCEL CORE 3 REVISION LESSONS BY TOPIC

(0)
The 4 classic areas that students tend to be intimidated by in Core 3: modulus, exponential modelling, differentiation and reciprocated trig functions. Go through the powerpoints at the board and model the answers. Then give students the relevant worksheet (many differentiated) and let them work through. Answers not supplied throughout
WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION PROBABILITY OF SIMPLE EVENTS AS A FRACTION

WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION PROBABILITY OF SIMPLE EVENTS AS A FRACTION

(0)
Complete lesson: powerpoint to show how tow write the probability of an event as a fraction. The fully differentiated write-on resource goes from 1 star (simple shape questions with no reduction) through 2 star (more common context) to 3 star (problems involving simple conditional). There is also a multi-choice homework to accompany the lesson.
QUICK FIRE FOUNDATION GCSE BASICS GRID 35 & 36

QUICK FIRE FOUNDATION GCSE BASICS GRID 35 & 36

This is a write-on resource which can be used in multiple ways: as a classwork task, homework task, weekly assessment or revision aid in the run up to assessments. There are 18 quick, "must know" questions for low ability foundation GCSE students of any age. There is a section at the foot of the resource for a score and a comment which students can act upon. Using multiple resources will build up a profile of which topics students need to review to enhance their learning. The sheet can be edited to give an infinite number of variations too. Check out the other grids in the series to build a bank of resources! A low ability GCSE class will take around 25 minutes to complete a grid. The powerpoint is so you can see what a grid looks like when printed. It is not the same grid as the ones on the purchase, but a similar layout.
WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION PROPORTION RECIPES
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION PROPORTION RECIPES

(0)
A full lesson on the classic examination question based on unitary proportion. The powerpoint takes students through how we can very simply change a recipe for 4 biscuits into a recipe for 8 biscuits and then evolves to see how we could perhaps change recipes for 6 into recipes for 8 by scaling down and then up. There are two resources to accompany the lesson, both of which are fully differentiated and, when printed in A4 booklet form, allow the students to write on, including their working. Answers not supplied and the recipes are not real! I usually finish this lesson with the Maths 4 Real video with Ben Shepherd (although I cannot include this video as I do not own it)
LUCKY DIP OF FOUNDATION DIFFERENTIATED MENTAL STARTERS

LUCKY DIP OF FOUNDATION DIFFERENTIATED MENTAL STARTERS

(1)
8 mental starters on various random topics, all aimed at foundation/KS3 students. Each is fully differentiated. Students select the red light question (easy) or the green light (harder). In most cases there is a selection of answers down the side to chose from. Answers are given at the end and students can score themselves 1 point for an easy question, 2 points for a harder or 3 if they tried both
