With over 20 year's teaching experience, I am now a SLE for Maths and provide consultancy support to a number of schools across the UK and Channel Islands. Many of the schools I support are now implementing a mastery curriculum and are currently trialling some of my resources with great feedback from both staff and students.

A follow me card game that can be used as a starter activity or during another part of the lesson. It can be used more than once so that students can try to improve their timing, especially if they try to beat another class.
2 worksheets using conceptual and procedural variation for substituting into 2 step expressions. These worksheets will suit a mastery curriculum and will also work well for other SOW
3 worksheets which require students to form expressions and substitute into 1 step equations. Worksheets can be used as part of a mastery curriculum with conceptual and procedural variation or can be integrated into any SOW. Fits nicely with the White Rose Maths Secondary Scheme.
An investigation on straight line graphs which can be used as part of a mastery style curriculum such as the White Rose Maths Secondary Scheme or to complement any secondary maths scheme. It has been written to lead students through the different elements of drawing linear graphs. This activity needs to be done hand in hand with a graph plotter. There are many free versions available online or as downloadable apps.
Teachers would circulate the room during this activity and ensure students are able to articulate their findings using the given key words (in blue throughout). There is no mention at this stage of the equation y=mx+c and teachers can use this investigation to lead onto that if appropriate.

A fully animated powerpoint using intelligent practice and bar models to help students gain a deep understanding of fractions of an amount. This work would fit well with the White Rose Maths Secondary Schemes of Learning and suit both a mastery curriculum and a conventional curriculum. I hope you find it useful :-)
A set of resources using conceptual variation for collecting like terms. They would lend themselves to both a mastery curriculum and a traditional curriculum.
These worksheets can also be found as part of the White Rose Maths Secondary planning for Block 3 week 6.
This is a series of worksheets, activities and FREE lessons using the White Rose Maths Secondary Schemes (Year 7 Autumn Term 1 Block 2 Week 4 Algebraic Thinking - Understanding and using notation). This is week 3 of 3 from block 2. I have made lessons using the schemes with suggested activities. Where possible, I have suggested the use of manipulatives and have provided many opportunities for afl. Each slide on the teacher’s powerpoint gives suggestions of activities and suggestions on how to use the slide. You may decide to use the slides differently to how I have done or may decide to not use the powerpoint at all and just the activities.
I have given some suggested answers and ideas how to scaffold learning. Teachers may decide to hide these slides for their own use only or they may decide to share these with their students.
Key words have been highlighted throughout in blue and definitions are highlighted in purple. All worksheets and activities are also provided separately (as a ppt and/or pdf where possible) for ease of printing.
I hope you find this useful, it has taken a lot of time to prepare! I hope to produce worksheets and activities for the rest of the year so keep a look out. I have included the powerpoint free of charge, it may not be available later in the year as my staff begin to prepare their own lessons. Let me know how it goes.
White Rose Maths Small Steps Covered
