Here is a powerpoint presentation and a worksheet on French Christmas with moderate to challenging language. On each slide you will find a recording attached (check speaker icon). You can play it without showing the slide and use it as a listening/comprehension task. I have attached a worksheet with questions to answer in English and some vocabulary to find in the powerpoint. I have also attached the answer sheet. If the sound does not work on each slide, I have attached a Youtube link with the audio recording.

Here is a powerpoint to practise /describe the colour of pets. I included two slides to recap pets and colours first. Then I explain the rules with colour adjectives. Next I show some pictures and the pupils have to work out and write down on their whiteboard the colour of the pets. There are also a ‘correct or incorrect’ and ‘choose the correct answers’ tasks. I included two differentiated reading and writing tasks where the pupils have to apply the grammatical rules with colours.

The first slide recaps/ introduces the verb aller at the present tense (get the pupils to give the correct answers). The next slides can be used as a pair work or group work. Then there is translation task (spot the mistakes). Slide 10 can be used as battle ship task. Slide 11 is a class game (boys vs girls), say a sentence using aller for each picture. Slides 12 and 13 are ‘find the following…in the text’. Last slide can be used as visual for a plenary

French food and drinks booklet with plenty of varied reading and writing tasks

Two differentiated booklets on French food and drinks. There is plenty of visual and written support for lower ability children and more challenging tasks for higher ability pupils. The booklet starts with two easy tasks of labelling the pictures and a wordsearch then gradually becomes more challenging as the children get to extend their writing skills. There is also an opportunity for the children to revise numbers and use them with food or drinks. I have also added differentiated reading tasks (for instance correct the wrong statements, read the paragraphs and answer the questions, a code to crack and a task on breakfast in different countries)

L'Alphabet en francais (with sounds for the letters) and listening and reading tasks

I prepared these resources for my year 6 primary children who find learning the French Alphabet a bit challenging. First slide goes through the sound of each letter while singing. The second task is a listening task where the children have to listen and circle the correct letter. Third task is another listening task where the pupils have to listen and write the correct missing letters. The last task is reading/ writing/ cultural task where the letters have been replaced by their sound and the pupils have to work out the names of famous French people/ brands. Then they have to link the name with correct pictures. Finally I made another worksheet where they have to work out the names of celebrities/ football players.

Here is a very lengthy powerpoint presentation that can be used over two or three lessons. Harry Potter la couleur yeux et cheveux.

A powerpoint presentation to introduce different colours of hair and colours of eyes using different characters from Harry Potter. It can be used to recap previous learning or to introduce new vocabulary. I use slides 1, 9, 10, 11 and 12 to introduce new language. I get the children to repeat the new language (playing a repetition game against me). Then I reuse the same slides as a support for pair-work (mouthe and guess, encore une fois…etc). There is a speaking activity (nought and crosses game) where the pupils need to say the colour of hair or eyes or the hair length or style. The slide 14 is a model for a writing activity. Obviously depending on their ability or previous learning , pupils can say or write a bit more.

Two worksheets to practise using the verb etre at the present tense with different pronouns and adjectives. There is a also a speaking activity card game to be used in group or with a partner. Children have to translate into the French/ English. Suitable for upper keystage 2 children (year 6 or high ability year 5) but also suitable for Ks3 pupils (year 7, 8 and 9) who need to practise this high frequency verb.

La famille et les animaux domestiques dans les livres Harry Potter

Here are a powerpoint presentation on family and a worksheet on pets. The powerpoint can be used as a recap of family members names or an introduction to the topic ‘la famille’.I haven’t changed any of the characters names as pupils have most likely read the books or seen the films in English and won’t know their names in French. To tackle grammar I use three colours (blue for masculine nouns, red for feminine nous and green for plural). I also use these three colours for the different pronouns e.g. il, elle, ils and elles. I have included a writing task to go along the presentation (slide 16) so that the pupils have to read and listen carefully while the presentation is being played. The powerpoint includes differentiated writing and reading tasks (gap-fills, translation, true or false and spot the grammatical errors). The slides 22 to 27 show the answers. The worksheet can be used as a recap task on pets.

Le petit dejeuner various worksheets with differentiated writing, reading and translating tasks

I made these worksheets for my year 6 but they can be used for older pupils. The various tasks will help practise their writing skill on breakfast food and drinks. The cross-words task can be used with help or with very little help depending on your children’s ability. For my class I only added a few letters for each word and they have to work out what could be the breakfast food. There is also a battleship to practise speaking as a pair-work.

les pieces de la maison, la famille et le verbe etre (je, tu, 3rd pronoun)

Here is a powerpoint presentation on rooms of the house with family members and pets. I made it as a guessing game to encourage my primary children to say where mon pere, ma mere, mon frere, ma soeur, mon chien and mon chat are (all the answers are on the last slide). I would use the battle-ship template or the worksheet (piece de la maison, famille and verb etre) as a written support to help them say correctly the sentence. I have included a lot of written support for my primary but it can be obviously be deleted and adapted for more confident learners. Attached to this powerpoint are some worksheets (differentiated) I made to practise writing and reading skills.

Here are few resources I have prepared for my year 6 pupils. You will find an ‘encore une fois’ speaking/reading activity (one child picks some food or a drink and the other child has to guess what his/her partner has chosen. Every time they get it wrong, they read from the start). You will also find a worksheet on food and opinions. I have also prepared a snakes and ladders board with pictures to practise saying name of food and drinks. I have also included a 5 in a 5 differentiated row board game that they can play in pairs (one with written support, one without). To help them design a food poster and sorting food into food groups, I have found some French poster. This can used as a way to recap food and drinks. Finally there is a blockbuster game (boys vs girls) with food and drinks.

Mes dernieres et mes prochaines vacances. Activite de comprehension

Here are two comprehension tasks with differentiated questions. It’s a long text using past and future tense. One worksheet contains questions in French to answer using full sentences, some translation and a short grammar task on some frequency verbs. The other sheet has questions in English. It would suit well a high ability year 9/year 10. This text can also be used later as a model to support their own writing. I have attached the answer sheet.
