It starts with introducing the endocrine system as well as the various endocrine glands in the human body. It then moves on to discussing hormones including the different types of hormones and their actions. There is then a comparison of hormonal communication and neuronal. The lesson closes by looking at the adrenal gland including its structure and the different role it plays in both the endocrine system as well as the sympathetic nervous system. An assembly on the background, discoveries and legacy of four British scientists- one each from the 17th to the 20th Century. Includes lots of images. It discusses that much of the science we still hold to today is built upon the discoveries that each made. The assembly closes by pointing out some of the discoveries that have been made since the year 2000. It also points out that we don’t know yet who will be the most significant scientists of the 21st century- it could be one of the audience. This is a good way of raising British values and the impact of Britain on the culture of the world. It is suitable to advertise British science week but can be used at any time.
