A scheme of work i made based on OCRs specification, designed for our students who won't be entered for GCSE maths. The course is designed to be completed in about a year, but i'm thinking I&'ll need to be flexible with the timings and use the same scheme for year 10 and 11. Hope you find it useful

A PowerPoint Activity on sharing in ratios, in particular finding an unknown amount, e.g how much water do you need if water and squash are mixed in the ratio 3:10 and 20ml of squash is used. There is a starter on sharing in ratios and then some examples followed by some questions. Hope you find it useful. Has a multiple choice starter for converting between mixed numbers and top heavy fractions. Some questions at the end, but they can be taken out if you've got better ones. Ideal for KS3 students. These are for an introductory lesson i did with a very low ability GCSE group. Each child was secretly given a super power, telling them about one of the laws of indices, this was built up by telling them that only they would be able to solve these questions. they then practised before answering q's as a group, other members had to work out how they were answering questions.

A PowerPoint with 16 world records, students have to make estimates with sensible units, then there are links to show the answer along with a picture. Good maybe as a starter or fun end to a few lesson. A good thinking skills activity.

A grid showing variables, the students have to work out which are related, e.g. time spent revising and mark on test are related. Going through students answers i tend to use one colour to match up direct relationships and another to match up indirect and ask them to think about what the red relationships have in common and what the blue relationships have in common. Will this relationship be blue or red?

An APP / BLP sort of lesson where students are asked to design a zoo, they need to take make sure that animals have enough space and have to design the shape of the enclosures. Involves area and perimeter as animals which make the most money need bigger enclosures but the fencing costs money so they need to try to reduce area to perimeter ratio. All you need is a few sheets of squared paper for each group to degin their zoo on (3 or 4 should be plenty) and then they compete to make the best looking zoo which makes the most money.
