This presentation contains the integral proof for 22/7>π . A slightly obscure topic but I thought the presentation would be gladly received by someone somewhere.

Conway's Game of Life

Conway’s Game of Life is a cellular automaton, a zero player game in which the progress and future states are determined only by the start configuration. The presentation contains an animated description of the game’s rules, animated gifs and weblinks. The topic is beyond the school syllabus - perhaps to stretch students in Maths/ Sciences/ Programming/ Philosophy. I hope someone finds this handy - I couldn’t find an introductory presentation on this topic elsewhere. Thanks.

Science Assembly - Do try this at home experiments

(1)
PowerPoint animations describing three exciting experiments for an assembly. i) A no-handed mug catch ii) Non-popping balloon immune to candles iii) Floating teabags. I got students to perform the experiments. A script is included in the footnotes. The teabags work better launched from a paper surface - they seem to get stuck with heat-proof mats. Physics Extension work - BPhO Olympiad Challenge questions and solutions

(0)
Use these questions with your brightest and best year 12 students to occupy and stretch them from the very beginning of the A level physics course. The year 12 A level Physics Olympiad exams are in January and March every year. It’s tricky to start training students on challenging questions at the start of their A level studies as they haven’t covered much relevant content. The questions reproduced in this resource are suitable for the start of the A level physics course - the problem solving is tricky but builds on existing GCSE knowledge. Solutions are provided.

Exoplanets fun lesson

Exoplanets are very frequently in the news, they are fascinating. This lesson contains a short presentation followed by the (addictive) Planet Crash simulation game or an iPad app task. A really fun lesson - particularly useful for the end of term.
