Rounding numbers - Mastery and Greater Depth

Great resources for more able children. The first activity is simply rounding large numbers but the last two in the table require a little more thinking. The second activity requires children to use reasoning and working backwards. The greater depth activities involve money and working backwards.

Maths - Line graphs KS2 including mastery

These activities put statistics in a real life context. There is a table of data showing how many customers visited Frankie and Benny’s on Saturday and Sunday. This data can be used to create a line graph. Higher ability children could create one with two lines, one for each day. As an extension, there are questions (small sticker format) to answer about the data. For children who progress quickly there is also a separate mastery activity, answering questions using a line graph.

Reasoning problem, working systematically - Find all possibilities for Homer's doughnuts

(0)
A fantastic reasoning activity that helps children improve their problem solving and ability to work systematically. The problem starts with 3 objects and moves on to four. There is also an opportunity for more able children to make predictions for 5 and 6 objects and then test their theories. Very able children may make connections such as once you find all the possibilities for one starting object, you can multiply this by the total number of objects for the number of possibilities altogether. Activities that cover a variety of objectives related to fractions including identifying and shading fractions (shapes and sets of shapes), equivalent fractions, fractions of amounts, unit and non-unit fractions, ordering unit fractions. I have included some Year 2 level activities for closing gaps or children working below. There are also a couple of mastery/greater depth activities for children needing a challenge.
