Presentation goes through the different causes of river pollution and the environmental impact. The main activity is linked to play script writing in English as children are asked to create a TV advert about river pollution. These could be performed in a drama lesson. A great activity to help children think about different types of characters and how they would react in different situations. This can provide a stimulus for writing narratives or playscripts. The starter is a group activity where children match dialogue and action to a well-known character. The powerpoint looks at this in a little more depth. The main activity gives children 4 different characters. Children need to imagine they just crash landed in a jungle and come up with dialogue and an action for each one. A fantastic reasoning activity that helps children improve their problem solving and ability to work systematically. The problem starts with 3 objects and moves on to four. There is also an opportunity for more able children to make predictions for 5 and 6 objects and then test their theories. Very able children may make connections such as once you find all the possibilities for one starting object, you can multiply this by the total number of objects for the number of possibilities altogether.
