In addition, if they are on accelerated reader, then I have made a note of this alongside the book.
Verse novels have become very popular with publishers and readers, particularly over the past five years. They offer a new, original way of reading verse and poetry, so can be a great way to encourage reading for pleasure.

Want to encourage reading for pleasure in your school, which is actually linked to the PSHRE/PSHE curriculum? This resource could well be perfect for you!

The World Around Us

It is hoped that by reading about some of these books, students can identify with and see themselves with some of the characters, helping to deal with real life issues that they could be experiencing . The posters are also hoped to broaden their reading choices, as well as develop empathy and understanding.
Accelerated Reader levels are also included.
Print out and pop this stunning set of resources in classrooms, your school library or even the reception area so that parents and visitors can see how much you value reading and the wellbeing of your students.
Ensuring that all of your students can understand what they read is incredibly important. Comprehension is a fundamental principle for learning.
So how can you develop students’ comprehension skills? This handy worksheet resource is a very good start!
Pop this in whatever book your students are reading, and ask them to get into the habit of writing a one sentence summary of what they’ve just read. Get them to do it after every time they read, whether at school or at home.
This will mean that every time they then come back to their book, they can read their own summary, which is more likely to trigger memories of reading the book. It also means that as they are reading, they know they are going to have to write a summary sentence when they’ve finished, so they are more aware and focused on the plot/characters/events within the book.
This is particularly useful for when teaching SEN or low ability students! By the time they’ve finished reading their book, they will have a mostly complete worksheet and series of sentences that they can reflect on for writing book reviews! Plus, you can see clear evidence of them actually reading!
