This focuses on the non-Jews who helped to save Jewish people in the war. These are some of the unsung heroes of World War II who stood up for what was right. The first lesson looks at the concept of hiding and why people hid. The second lesson looks at heroes who are not well known but who saved many Jewish men, women and children. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK.

We pretended to go into outer space and set the classroom as up if we were in a rocket. The Smartboard was at the front, as if it were a window on the rocket. This was part of a fun topic we did on Aliens. There is plenty of chance for role play and drama. We ended up landing on a new planet,Kepler B22, and bringing back alien eggs which they had to look after. This lead to lots of drawing and writing when the eggs hatched! They wrote a recount of their trip. We also had a debate:Should we keep the eggs? Try it out-they will love it! Please leave feedback!
There is a link to the nrich website where you will find the sheet and more information. The starter of this lesson looks at balancing sums , Then the main part of the lesson introduces the maze. They have to go from beginning to end and each number they go through they have to add on to their total and they must have 100 by the end. Please leave feedback!
Here are variety of online games/activities for children to click on to increase their understanding of left/right/N/E/S/W/ clockwise and anti clockwise/right angle turns.
Follow the slides to take you through this complete lesson. The children will need whiteboards. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! Children will have previously been taught division as 'sharing&' before they move on to calculating it this way.
The children can all have the same grid. See grid sheet for instructions. A fun way to help children to remember what multiples of 2 end in. Could be part of a starter or quick recap.
The children can click on these and it takes them directly to lots of fun online games from various websites. I had all the laptops out for a lesson and they loved it. They are doing so much maths through play! Very motivational.
I used this homework with a year 5 group. The children had to think of four word problems related to Minecraft, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc.Talk through some examples with them. When you get the homework back choose the ones that are clear and make sense to photocopy for their next homework. They were actually enthusiastic about this homework! Please leave feedback.
Here are differentiated comprehension questions designed for year 5 but could be for younger or older. There are answer sheets too for the HAP and MAP. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
A reading comp with some challenging questions about this poem. We have beautifully illustrated books of this poem, illustrated by Charles Keeping which are worth getting hold of. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The poem is also dramatised in a youtube video which you will find if you type in the title. This could be used as part of a topic on this wonderful and mysterious poem.
The children will need to learn about concrete and abstract nouns first. They have ten sentences and have to underline all the nouns. There is an answer sheet.
Use the Smart board to take you through explaining the four games. Use the web link to download the free games: Pig, Boxes, Thirty up and Four Star. The idea is that they work strategically and use their knowledge to win! It should be a fun lesson. They can work with different partners. There is a plenary/reflection sheet at the end that can be stuck in their books.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
The children have a price list with the cost of savoury and sweet food, party bag items and games. They can choose which products to buy and put them into tables and calculate the cost. It could be made harder or easier by changing the prices. They should enjoy this as every child loves a party! May take more than 1 lesson. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
Read the poem 'The Sea' by James Reeves which is a metaphor. The sea is a hungry dog. Give each child a copy. Put the class into four or five teams. Photocopy the questions and chop up the questions. Each teams questions can be on a different colour paper. One team member comes up to get a question, takes it back to the team and shares it with them. Discuss answer and bring the question back to the teacher and tell them the answer. If correct they get a team point and then another member gets the next question. They love this! I have also included traditional comprehension questions that they can stick in their books, SEN/LA , MA and HA.
If you are not a PE specialist this is a good lesson as it could be repeated several times and it teaches some of the key skills in football. Follow the lesson plan but it is very simple. After the warm up split the class into 5 groups. Laminate the cards and put them at five different places as there are five different activities. You might want to pick children to demonstrate each activity first, especially if they are younger. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
There is a 'while you wait' looking at 'an', then an unrelated starter (was/were) and then examples of how 'a' and 'the' can change the meaning of a sentence, for example a queen/the queen, a dog/the dog. They then create their own sentences and draw pictures. e.g. There is a dog. (they draw any dog) There is the dog (their own or one they know).
I have written this for 8 and 9 year olds to perform but it could be used with older children. I have two versions, one shorter than the other with less characters. I have tried to stick to the real play but used modern language. Sometimes if I could I put in some of the original language. The cast list has so many parts as we have three classes but there could easily be less, by having less narrators, percussionists etc. I have found some great songs to go with it from this the starshine website but you have to buy the CD.
Follow the Smart board slides which takes you through this lesson which aims to develop their use of alliteration and extend their vocabulary. This is very structured so all the class can write a great poem, whatever their ability. There is an example poem and vocabulary ideas for you to extend their vocabulary range, including an A to Z adjective sheet with high quality vocab. Looks great for display.
This is similar to my other spelling Bee resource, but these the books and word lists that we are doing this year -2014. See my other resource for how to run it.
