Here is nearly everything you need to hold your own Spelling Bee. The spelling lists relate to famous children's books so it could be held during a Book Week. You will need a microphone. It is also worth having a cup made for each year group and having each winner&'s name engraved on it. We are shortly holding our first one. I think we will put the words from the lists for each year group in separate hats and have rounds where they individually come up and have to spell the word, by using letter names, speaking into the microphone. If you use this let me know how it goes!
This game focuses on onomatopoeia, rhyme, alliteration and personification. The rules are simple and explained in the file. All I know is that children of all ages love a bingo game! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
Use this to test the children to see which list they need to start on. THIS RESOURCE LINKS WITH MY OTHER BIG SPELLINGS RESOURCES which contains all the files and info you need to use 'Big spelling&' in your school (years 3 to 6) to improve spelling! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is also a new file I have created which shows you how to link the new national curriculum statutory spelling lists into Big Spellings.
These are differentiated spelling lists for a first or middle school, and there is a file here which explains exactly how it could work in your school. It means each child has exactly the right spelling list for them regardless of age. This was a very popular resource with over 100 ratings and 5 stars. Lots of schools have adopted it and I've had very positive feedback from teachers, but took me all summer to make and so I thought I'd start to charge for it. It encourages independence as the children test each other at the end of the week. There are enough spelling lists on one A4 sheet to last a term. The lists start with cvc words and phonic sounds, progressing to very challenging words. They also contain all the High Frequency Words. There are free assessment sheets in another resource to work out which sheet each child starts at. Also hold Spelling Bees! (see my free resources for this!)
This resource links to my other resource 'Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard&'. Once they have learned and imitated that story they are ready to write their own.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! This is a very visual resource with lots of pictures of characters and treasures to help them generate interesting ideas. This resource works best when taught in the style of Pie Corbett (learn, imitate, innovate) The boxing up chart helps them to structure their story in 5 clear paragraphs.
Halloween word problems including percentages, range, mode, median, multiplication and fractions. With scary pictures too! This can be adapted and made easier/harder.
You need to have Smart board software to access this lesson as it is all on the slides. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a drama activity first where the children act out what they would do if there was an air raid. There are sound effects to play as they do this. Make the classroom as dark as possible. Then there is a structured poem that they can create based on their experiences and what they heard.
In this lesson there is a link to a really good song about square numbers and I have put the song words on here. The Venn sheet comes from the nrich website and there is a link on here too. The categories on the Venn are square numbers and odd.
The lesson includes a starter and plenary. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
Follow the Smartboard-The children pick their favourite Kandinsky painting and then work with children in teams, who also chose the same fave painting as them, to do a presentation to explain why it is their favorite. The SB doc contains vocabulary which you can encourage them to use. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is also a maths link on here so they can make a class graph of their favourite painting and answer questions on this.

Photocopy and cut up the 18 questions on to card and place on each table. The children will need to know about compass points including NW, NE etc. This lesson helps them to understand quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns, compass points and anti-clockwise and clockwise. Practise with the children and see if they can follow instructions themselves, getting them to e.g. face North, turn a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The Smart board introduces the lesson and there is a quiz. The children can mark their work at the end.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
The children really enjoy creating a beautiful symmetrical piece of patch work which can be hung together all year as a lovely colourful display. I am proud of my original idea, inspired by a book on Amish patchwork. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! No sowing involved! I used fabric glue instead! A great project for the autumn term. The Smart board slides show examples of what the patch work piece might look like but the slides and lesson plans take them step by step through creating their own unique piece. There is an overview of the project with learning objectives.
This is a Smart Board resource I have made to go with the activity from the nrich website. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a link here to find the other resources/sheets you will need from the website. I have also made a recording sheet and a plenary sheet. The main aim of the lesson is to get the children to record their work as they go along, but they are also practising adding and subtraction skills. I have allowed calculators to be used but this could be made more challenging by not allowing them!
Introduce the artist and his work by using the Power point. There are differentiated reading comprehensions to go with this as we try to put literacy into all our topics. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
This Smart board introduces The Globe theatre and includes photos and interesting facts about it. The children could do some writing afterwards, including some of the new facts they have found out. They could draw the outside or inside the theatre and label it. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
This is a lesson which introduces children to working out subtraction by finding the difference between the two 2-digit numbers numbers by using a number line. Follow the lesson and then on the SB there are 8 sums, 1 star and 8 sums, 2 star for them can choose from. I let them choose which level to start on. If they finish ask them to do the other sums. They must use a number line each time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! I have attached a blank mult square for the starter. Plenary is marking their work-answers on the SB.
There are some simple rules to follow which I have included in a word document. You only need one board -the same one- for each child. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! You can change the names on the board to the children you teach. They really enjoy this and it makes grammar a bit more fun!!
This is very motivational and fun but does assume children will have already got a good understanding of division with remainders! Follow the Smart board to understand what to do. The children try to answer the 10 division with remainders questions on each card as quickly as possible and then self mark before moving on to the next stage. Only let them have one stage at a time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!The questions get harder but it is possible for some to complete all 5 stages in a lesson!
