Vikings Introduction Overview

(2)
A tutorial and related worksheet and activities to introduce the Depth Study option 1a (Western and Islamic World: Vikings) Yr 8 History. Some parts have been based on a TES Vikings introduction I found on this site (but I significantly adjusted and augmented it to add more detailed overview information and active learning activities). I have created and added a related worksheet and related learning activities. I have tried to make it a much more active learning activity than it was in its original form. Modified version is also attached.

The Hunger Games- social justice themes

(1)
Class activity for teaching "Big idea" concepts such as social justice in History, Geography and English using the "Hunger Games" movie/stories. No definite need to show these movies if students have already seen the movies or read the books (and they will almost certainly have done so), but it could be an option to read/view if needed).

Pompeii (movie) questions Ancient Romans

(1)
Questions/activities to be used in conjunction with the movie 'Pompeii' (2014)- nice as an end of year activity to complement studies of Ancient Romans. Intended for 7 History (with appropriate parental permission for the movie), but could be adapted for other year groups. This works best as an adjunct to more comprehensive study of ancient Rome preceding this movie.

Information about Otzi and a related essay task. This is for Year 11 Ancient History topic 1b Ancient Human Remains and designed as a revision task and essay practice. Note that the 'EdModo' source mentioned is just a copy of this document as my students accessed it electronically rather than me wasting paper. The 'Iceman Murder' documentary mentioned is from BBC and is available on Clickview Online if your school has access to this. Otherwise, there are similar documentaries available on Youtube.

Rights and Freedoms: America Civil Rights Movement

(1)
Learning activities relating to the American Civil Rights Movement as part of Yr 10 History core Rights and Freedoms topic. I recommend doing American Civil Rights before Australian Aboriginal Rights in this unit because they in many ways inspired the Civil Rights Movement in Australia and doing the US first helps to provide a broader context.

Overview Ancient into Modern World

(1)
Learning activities related to map and the transition of the ancient world into the modern. Includes using a map as an historical source and a chronology exercise. This would work best if complemented by teacher explication of the reasons for the 'fall' of Rome, Constantine's relocation to Constantinople and where future topics (e.g. Vikings and Shoguns) to be studied fit into the chronology. It also includes a modified version of the task that has adaptations designed specifically for a student with difficulty writing and moving due to cerebral palsy.
