Engage your learners in the topic of continents and oceans with this packet of 6 different activities to identify and secure their knowledge and understanding of the 7 continents and 5 oceans. The packet includes;
a reading comprehension with a variety of question types
a continents and oceans world map labelling activity
continents population facts with a table template for ordering
hands on creative circle booklet for continent size and facts
continents and species sorting activity
identifying 3 countries in each continent
continent and oceans word search activity
The activities have been designed to cover a range of geography/ social studies curriculum in the USA and UK aimed at 7-9 year olds. Once they’ve completed the activities, students will have a deeper understanding of our world oceans and continents, enabling them to talk about them with a greater degree of confidence.
This activities require no/ very little prep, saving you time but offering valuable learning.
Make learning about our continents engaging and fun with this hands on creative activity. Children can order the size of the continents, name them, add surrounding oceans and identify countries within in them. There is scope to add more facts in order to differentiate tasks.
This no prep activity consists of 7 circles with each of the continents inside them. Learners need to lay the circles on top of each other in size order to create the booklet and attach them with a split pin. From here, they can see the size order of the continents and they can begin to identify them and add relevant facts.
The finished activity would look great on your next bulletin/display board, or even glued into books for future reference.
This is a valuable resource which has always been popular with my students over the years. It will make it easier for them to retain key continent information.
