A worksheet and powerpoint to show how to use brackets and dashes, I give the explanation of how to use them on the powerpoint/video and then the students correct six examples, then write an example of their own. This is aimed for students doing either Functional skill or GCSE English language and who need to vary their punctuation usage.

A resource for anyone who is looking to increase the depth of their analysis for when answering language analysis questions. This technique is used to help students say more, moving away from a grade 4 and moving towards the higher levels. It’s been done with AQA GCSE English language in mind but I believe it has it’s benefits for all kinds of language analysis, regardless of specifications, I’ve included an accompanying worksheet and a copy of the PowerPoint with a sample answer.

Both books are over twenty pages and have extension activities , they were designed to help students identify language techniques and to know how to answer question 5 with multiple options to choose from to practice these skills.

Bundle includes: Halloween - assembly or just a reading comprehension as it goes into the Halloween culture, has a reading task and a quiz and video to finish. Black History Month assembly - based on the theme of voting, activities included so it can be used for tutor time activities. Black lives matter - looking at the history of the civil rights movement of African American people and an introduction to some of History’s most significant contributers to the civil rights movement. Employability - an English focused lesson aimed at improving students employment skills. Growth Mindset - Looks at how to think in a way that helps success and happiness. Looks at case studies, differentiated questions with a video and a mindset quiz. Murder mystery - uses Maths and English clues to solve the murder. Socially distant icebreakers - Personality quiz and other tasks that can be completed online. Create your own superhero - A step by step guide to creating your own superhero. Zombie lesson - An English based lesson looking at a zombie survival. All resources are fully editable and a great way to start the year.

A sample version of a quiz I made, students figure out English idioms and pictograms. The full version has general knowledge questions, identify the sound, pictogram and emogi stages and is fully editable, there are 20 questions in total and should take at least 40 mins to complete depending on your student’s ability. it can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/quiz-12442955 a supporting video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61tMXwCgcV0&t=57s where students can go through the quiz either in class or at home, answers are included at the end of the video.

Can be used for any lesson where the inferring skill needs to be developed. Includes: A reading comprehension on a descriptive text. Vocab development. inferring from images and inferring from context to help students understand difficult language. All resources are editable, extension activities have been included to aid differentiation , lesson has been designed with lesson objectives using Bloom’s taxonomy. A lesson on growth mindset where students learn about the benefits of positive thinking and that most things can be achieved through hard work and dedication. Students also learn about a fixed mindset way of thinking which can be a barrier to success. Activities include Growth or fixed mindset quiz - to see if students are too ridgid in their thought process. Case study of two individuals facing adversity - students select which one is growth and which one is fixed and try to explain why this is. Speaking and listening activity - Students watch a video on growth mindset and fill in a worksheet to see what information they understood, the questions are red, amber and green for differentiation and for students to take on a challenge. Writing to advise activity - students look at a few scenarios of where people with a fixed mindset are asking for help.
