A worksheet where students can practice identifying sources and then writing their own senses to images, video and powerpoint included so can be used as home learning.
A presentation/ video with a step by step guide on how to write an article. It looks at writing headings, the 5 W’s witness statements and conclusions. There is a download available with a sample article I have written and labelled with each of the stages I wanted to include.
DAFORREST is an acronym for persuasive writing techniques. This is suitable for anyone who is doing GCSE English language as paper 2 is all about persuasive techniques, so the ability to write and analyse these techniques is a good fundamental skill. This is also important for those who do persuasive writing for IGCE and those who are studying level 2 functional skills.
A resource for anyone who is looking to increase the depth of their analysis for when answering language analysis questions. This technique is used to help students say more, moving away from a grade 4 and moving towards the higher levels. It’s been done with AQA GCSE English language in mind but I believe it has it’s benefits for all kinds of language analysis, regardless of specifications, I’ve included an accompanying worksheet and a copy of the PowerPoint with a sample answer.
A worksheet and powerpoint to show how to use brackets and dashes, I give the explanation of how to use them on the powerpoint/video and then the students correct six examples, then write an example of their own. This is aimed for students doing either Functional skill or GCSE English language and who need to vary their punctuation usage.
A short powerpoint and worksheet on linking words and their usages, this can be used as homework as I’ve made a video going through this, or it can be adapted and used as part of a lesson. The worksheet has some questions on paragraphing (video to follow shortly) and all answers are included.
A lesson looking at the basics of language analysis. In particular question 3 paper 2.
I’ve made this lesson with a strong focus on target setting, the students have an option to choose between three SMART targets to be reviewed at the end of the lesson.
The lesson focuses on the basics of language analysis, focusing first on students being able to identify language techniques using scanning, then looks at re writing common similes and metaphors.
Students are then introduced to PEA paragraphs and those who want to push themselves PEACE paragraphs.
There is a self/peer marking slide with a brief explanation as to how it is marked in the exam.
My idea was to be for this to be an introduction into into language analysis for grade 3/4 students although I’ve included activities for those who wish to achieve grade 5 and above.
A ‘getting to know you’ resource to be used at the start of a year to help you get to know the students, with cruical questions gathered from teachers on Edutwitter.
It has a section on SMART targets and is fully adaptable so it can be changed to suit subject specific targets,
Comes with a cut out activity where students order the things they find most important in effective learning.
A lesson on report writing that can be used for both E3 and Level 1 level learners.
Spelling rules E3 - 'ce’ vs ‘se’ LV1 - ‘cious’ or ‘tious’ I then go over how to structure and write a report. I have written a sample answer from a question I wrote and then gave the students a sample question to have a go of as well. I’ve included a video explanation of the how to write a report and a quick run through of my answer, so it can be used for homework or remote learning.
I haven’t turned it into a PDF because I wanted to give you the option of editing and adapting this as you see fit but I hope it helps.
At the end of the resource I’ve included a table with the idea in mind that students will start to recored the different features of different texts.
A video, power point and resource on common mistakes to avoid for anyone about to do the level 1 functional skills exams.
Originally intended as home learning but it can be adapted to suit a face to face lesson.
Activity 1 is looking at an article I wrote on ‘Fortnight’ and identifying the labeled layout techniques.
Activity 2 answers a question about the common mistakes people make in these exams.
Answers included and Youtube version is available on my channel.
A video/power point that covers:
What subject verb agreement is.
Two different rules to apply.
Printable worksheet.
I made this for EFL students who jus need to brush up on their grammar, this has been designed to be given as homework or home learning. Alternatively you could just use the power point in your lesson.
A speaking and listening resource based on the theme of employability. Looks at:
Ranking employability skills in order of importance. - Makes students think about the skills they might need.
** Making civil requests to avoid conflict - resolving conflicts without making the situations escalate and answering difficult questions in a work interview.
Interpreting body language - This gets students to think about what they are communicating by the way they are standing.
