Finding superior upper level French materials suitable for AP is a challenge! In particular, matching tenses / la concordance des temps is key to retelling conversations using correct tenses. This comprehensive lesson includes activities for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The following tenses are used in this resource:
présent - imparfait

passé composé - plus-que-parfait
futur proche - imparfait
futur simple - conditionnel
Step 1 - Distribute the lesson guide and tense chart for students to observe and study the retelling of events using different verb tenses.
Step 2 - Students complete the exercises in written form and check their work.
Step 3 - Students use the set of numbered cards to practice oral production at their own pace. This can also be a paired speaking activity or a whole class.
Step 4 - Listen to the audio recording of the exercises while reading along with the set of numbered practice cards. Each prompt is read twice, and time is then given to speak the response.
Step 5 - Listen to the audio recording of the exercises without the help of the practice cards to work on listening comprehension and oral production at the same time. Use the answer key from the exercise to check responses when needed.

French Connect 4 Game - Avoir Expressions
This is a fun, quick, and easy way to have your students review avoir in the present tense with common expressions.
In order to win, students connect four boxes by filling them in with the conjugations of avoir and the expressions listed at the bottom of the game board (see the expressions used below). Subject pronouns are listed on the left.
Students take turns filling in boxes until four are connected. At this point, they can check their work using the answer key provided. If any of the conjugations are incorrect, the game continues. Full instructions are included.

Present tense French DRE Verbs - Primary French conjugation chains - Cut and paste
This literacy center or independent work activity for primary core French or primary French immersion is a fun, hands-on way for your students to practice conjugating 9 different regular French DRE verbs in the present tense. Each verb page has ten strips to cut out. The first one is for the student’s name, and the following nine strips are for conjugating JE - TU - IL - ELLE - ON - NOUS - VOUS - ILS - ELLES. Students begin by filling in the blanks to add the correct present tense endings. The number of letters needed for the endings is indicated by the number of blanks provided to help students while learning or reviewing conjugations. Next, they cut out the strips and paste them together forming conjugation chains. They’ll love hanging them up around the classroom! This resource is also available for verbs ending in ER, and verbs ending in IR.
