University Fair Research

Sixth Form, Year 12, Year 13 - whatever you might call them - often find themselves at university or higher education fairs (virtual or otherwise) and miss a valuable opportunity to research their university options, as they are simply unsure what to ask. This worksheet takes the nerves away by making sure they always have something to ask. Print 5 copies per student and task them with getting them all filled in. They can then feed back their research to other students in a tutor period after the fair.

Not My Holiday

Creative writing prompt for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Could act as an extension activity for able writers, but also works for less able. Liven up the traditional “What I Did Over the Summer Holidays” by pairing students to write about each other’s holidays using carefully gathered sensory details via an interview, which they can then use to create a poem. Also good for teaching the vital creative writing skill of show not tell. Allow 10 minutes per interview, around 15-20 for putting the poem together. Poems can be shared at the end of the lesson or next lesson for critique.

Inspire the more able creative writers with these wintry prompt cards they will incorporate into a short story, before being challenged to incorporate another as yet unseen element. Great for Key Stage 3. An excellent end of term activity that feels like fun, but is actually a real challenge. A piece can emerge that could be refined later.
