This is an entire Scheme of Work for the Historic Site aspect of the Eduqas Crime and Punishment Unit for History GCSE. Every lesson has activities, worksheets and practice exam questions. At times the work refers to the textbook- this is available for free by emailing the exam board, or contact me and I can email it. The scheme of work could easily be adapted for other students studying this content. A lot of the content is generic. Exemplar question for Question 5 of the Eduqas Germany Paper, based on the impact of hyperinflation.

This is a simplified lesson on the causes of the American Revolution / War of Independence. Students read through 4 main factors and then complete a grid describing and explainign them. The lesson ends with a structure peer assessed paragraph answering the question ‘Why did America want to break free from Britain’. It also includes a Knowledge Organiser for our unit up to this point, which includes some background on the early British settlements in the Americas.

A revision pack that focuses on how to answer the first four questions of the Germany in Transition Unit (Eduqas) exam, with lots of example questions, exemplars and tips. Students can work through the tasks during a lesson or be given the pack as an extended homework.

A lesson for the Eduqas GCSE History America unit. Focusses on students understanding the story of Watergate using two listening tasks. It then finishes with an exam question from the Eduqas GCSE unit.

An entire lesson on Reagan’s policies, finishing with an exam question from the Eduqas GCSE.

KS5 Edexcel A Level lesson on the British Empire and trade. Focusses on being able to write a thematic essay, using key terms such as ‘turning point’. The lesson uses examiner feedback from the 2017 exam series. You will need to download the examiner’s report to find an example essay to look at. Students create a living graph to help them understand the trends during the period. They then look at a card sort and use the evidence to decide how far different events were ‘turning points’.

An introduction or stand alone lesson on the Ottoman Empire. students have to study the different main events in the Ottoman Empire, to make an A3 timeline, and then evaluate how powerful the Ottoman Empire was at each of these points. An example is given of what the students need to create. I print off the task sheet and photocopy it into A3. I then print off the information slides and give these to the students. With a weaker group a teacher may wish to go through each event slide by slide. There is a challenge task available for stronger students.

This looks at the four main long term causes of World War I- Imperialism, Nationalism, Alliances and the arms race. Students have a structured way of learning one factor and then teach it to each other. The lesson then asks students to link these to short term factors, using the Horrible Histories clip, with differentiated tasks to complete whilst watching this clip. It finishes with an exam practice. The worksheets are included within the PowerPoint slides, just to make things simple. This lesson was made for a mixed ability Year 9 class, and was 1 hour long. It could be broken into two shorter lessons.

This was used for an end of unit lesson on Women’s Rights in the 20th and 21st Century for Year 9 History, but could easily work for Citizenship or PSHE as a standalone lesson on this topic.

A lesson on Emily Davison. Can be part of a unit on the Suffragettes or a stand alone lesson on a key figure from history. The 'statements' I used for a plenary exercise for lower ability classes. I handed students different statements. I then asked them to work out if that showed Emily was a hero or not. This helped them formulate an opinion on her actions. Would work for any KS3 class.

This lesson is designed to follow a lesson on the Glorious Revolution. It starts by recapping the revolution and then asks students to evaluate the impact of the Bill of Rights.

This is an active revision guide for students which I made to cover the whole of the GCSE Germany content. It consists of questions and answers for the whole period for Germany 1919-39. Students can then test each other on their knowledge, use it for revision, or get family members or friends to test them. I have found it to be a really effective revision guide.
