This PPT includes everything learners need to know in order to pass their reading assessment (it is based on the level NCFE awarding body criteria). This is an English Functional Skills reading revision guide that has been written for learners who will be taking the level 1 reading assessment. The guide includes an overview of all the information they will need to know in order to pass this assessment ( based on the NCFE level 1 assessment). An English Reading Comprehension Activity. This resource gives the learner an overview of the TV show Squid Game. Learners will read the text and then answer twelve skimming and scanning questions based on this document. Answers are provided so that learners can self mark. This would suit Functional skills E3 learners.

32X cards that can be used to revise figurative language / persuasive language techniques including: Similes Metaphors Alliteration Onomatopoeia Idiom Oxymoron Sarcasm Irony Direct Address Facts Opinions Rhetorical Question Repetition Emotive Language Statistics Triples ( Rule of Three) There are statements on 2X cards each, which use one of the techniques above. These cards were created so that my learners could play a ‘match a pair’ game. Turn all of the cards over on the table. Get the learners to take it in turns to turn over two cards, if the statements match the technique then they ‘win’ that pair of cards. If they don’t match, then they turn them back over and another player gets to choose two cards. Continue until all the cards are matched. These can also be used as flash cards or revision cards and the cards are double sided, with a colourful polka dot design on the opposite side. Also attached, are a set of cards ( buyer to cut out) with each of the following persuasive devices names written on them. You can get your learners to place the correct statement cards under each of these headings.

Report Writing Task. The learner has a report writing task to complete. They can plan and format their report correctly by using the included report writing template.

P2 Explains the marking criteria and what learners need to include in their writing in order to pass the assessment There is a guide on how to correctly format the following: letters, emails, articles, reviews and reports. I have also provided picture examples on how each text should be formatted. Learners are then given tips on how to ‘bulk out’ their writing by using word association. A practice exam question ‘scenario’ is given. It also includes a visual step by step guide on how to use word association to generate ideas.

A PPT lesson for low ability year 7/ 8 pupils or an introduction to PEE paragraphs. This can be used for primary school aged pupils.
