Consolidation exercise after studying the rise in popularity of the Fascists 1918-21. Pupils create their own significance pizza. Each slice represents a key factor then the ingredients represent key detail, evidence and historians views. Fun exercise that brings knowledge and understanding together.

Pupils are given the four information sheets to work with in pairs. They research from these sheets to note down if the Allies were likely to lose or win. Whilst doing this pupils become aware of life on the German Home Front. They then create their own significance pie chart with explanation as to which statement they agree with the most. Good lesson for a year that is often forgotten in First World War studies. A challenging lesson.

This lesson looks at why many white Americans viewed the Plains Indians as savage. The main focus is looking at the religion of the Sioux. Pupils move around the room collecting information, AFL activities and exam focus at the end.

This lesson is a context lesson to the AQA HIS2K Mussolini 1922-1945 study. It requires students to make judgments on the stability of Liberal government on the eve of the First World War. Students arrive to this lesson having made notes on the problems facing liberal Italy after Unification.

Pupils challenge the interpretations of Terry Deary in his Horrible Histories Empire book. Pupils conduct their own individual research using the information sheets positioned around the room. Pupils then give a diverse interpretation in the plate exercise. There is also a peer assessment sheet.

This lesson requires pupils to gather information from around the room and then to produce a piece of empathy work on life a sea in the Tudor period. Their is a checklist for pupils to see before starting their written work and is also used in peer assessment afterwards. This lesson was rated as outstanding in December 2012.

This is an introductory lesson to Richard III and the Wars of the Roses. I use the Horrible Histories clip on youtube to do the timeline activity to plot key battles. Pupils then create a facebook profile for Richard III. I use this lesson as the first of four lessons in an enquiry into Richard III.

The lesson looks at the Reichstag Fire. It looks in particular about who is to blame and what immediate impact it has for Hitler becoming Dictator. Source analysis and exam question tasks included.

Lesson looking at the role of Gladiators in roman society. Pupils complete a starter/settler activity and then watch a series of horrible history clips and take notes on whether they think the Romans were civilized or not based on the role of gladiators. Pupils finish by completing a questionnaire by pretending to be a gladiator. Pupils then take part in plenary by judging how civilized they think Romans were.

(may take a minute or so to download because of videos) Lesson setting an enquiry as to why Bomber Command have only been dedicated a memorial in 2012. Students have to make a judgement as to whether a memorial should have been built. They compare sources and historians opinions. Videos and images included. lesson looking at the three contenders to the throne in 1066. starter looking at the qualities a King or Queen needs and looking at what an 'heir' to the throne is. Judgement exercises followed by plenary where pupils have to create their own campaign poster for the candidate they consider to have the strongest claim to the throne.
