This is a really good lesson aimed at getting the students to consider the evidence for life after death and to formulate their own opinion of what happens after you die. It asks the question: ‘What do you think happens after you die?’, it looks at possible evidence (including Near Death Experiences, Ghosts and Mediums), it also considers religious ideas about life after death. A really good lesson that will stretch and challenge your students. This resource also includes a starter and a h/w. It is aimed at KS3 but could easily be adapted for another key stage.

This lesson explores the Just War theory and looks at several case studies to consider whether or not the War was justified (e.g. WW2, Vietnam, Gulf War etc.) It challenges pupils to apply the criteria set out to determin whether or not these wars (or any war) is justified. It also asks questions about the greater good, human rights and the value of life. A really interesting lesson.

“THIS IS AN AMAZING LESSON” This is one of the of the most memorable lessons the students will study about Nazi Germany. It is both interesting and fun in equal measure. This is really two lessons (or a double) that covers the changing role of women in Nazi Germany before the war, during the 1930s and in WW2. Lesson 1 - contains a lot of information about Nazi policies towards women including a ‘True or False’ Quiz, some sources from leading Nazis and an exam question with a mark scheme. Lesson 2 - The real fun is in lesson two where the students will have to work as a team to draw the perfect Nazi women. They do so by passing their drawings along every 30 seconds and adding to each others drawings. It is a fun, interesting, memorable lesson that the students will be talking about long after the lesson is finished. Download these lessons! Seriously you won’t regret it. :-)

This assembly was originally desgined to introduce changes to the school rules, but it can be easily adapted to look at school rules or laws in society. It would also be useful to use as tutor time activity.

The assembly gives the history of Christmas and why there are so many strage traditions involved. It explains the pagan roots, the links to Christianity and how it has evolved to include a wide number of strange customs and traditions. The main part of the assembly features a fun quiz that the students can take part in. I get the whole year group to take part in a fun group activity. This is a really really good assembly! This lesson is an introduction to the big six major world religions. The students have to make notes on the big six and compare and contrast them. It is a good intro to the unit exploring ‘Alternative World Religions’ (also available in my shop!) A fun and fast paced lesson that promotes independent learning.

This lesson looks at the issues of Forgiveness and Reconciliation in two religions (Christianity and Islam). It uses religious quotes and teachings to explain what both relgions teach about Forgiveness and Reconciliation. It allows the pupils to compare and contrast two contrasting religions and see if there are more silimarities or differences between the two. This lesson is quite extensive and can be completed over two hours (or one lesson and a homework). An interesting and important lesson.

This is a useful look at an example of colonialism. It investigates why Britain would want to colonise India and what the impact was on both countries as a result of this imperialism. The students need to become ‘experts’ in one areas of this debate, and then teach the other students what they have learned. A good stand alone lesson, or it can be used as part of a SoW on either colonialism or the Industrial Revolution. It is also important to help the students to consider the long term ramifications of colonialism on Indiad development and why it still matters today.

This lesson looks at how soldiers expressed them selves on the front line by looking at several examples of art in war. Primarily the pupils will be asked to analyse famous drawings, painting and poems of WW1 to see what they can learn. The they will have a choice of making a drawing/painting or a poem of their own to show what they have learned. This lesson helps the students to develop empathy and encourages literacy through creative writing. An excellent lesson.

This lesson looks at the Rastafari faith and way of life. This lesson can be used as a stand alone lesson or as part of a larger unit on alternative religions (also available at my shop). It uses multi media to explore the culture and beliefs of people who follow the Rastafari faith, The students are asked to examine several of the more controversial aspects of the faith and consider whether or not they agree with the more traditional views and whether they fit into modern society today. An interesting and fun lesson.

An outstanding lesson that covers several other world religions in an interesting yet challenging way. There are a number of useful activities here that can be used or adapted for other lessons. A really good starter for learning about Eastern Religions. UPDATE - Based on the feedback from reviews the activities have been updated and a video has been added. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

This is a terrific lesson that introduces the Amish Faith (as featured in films like ‘Witness’, and TV shows like ‘The Devil’s Playground’ and even ‘Orange is the new Black’) It includes ‘Home or Away’ group activity where the students have to become experts and then teach one another about one aspect of Amish Culture. The lesson has additional activities such as: source analysis, creative drawing, debate and ultimately a discussion of the merits and drawbacks of living like the Amish do. An interesting and powerful lesson that teaches about a fascinating but little understood faith.

This assembly or tutor time presentation covers the history of anti-semitism and the reason why HMD was established. It includes a script (in the notes under each slide and in a seperate document) which explains each slide clearly but in some detail. It covers the 2023 HMD theme ‘Ordinary People’ and covers its relevance in the world today. The presentation looks at the reasons for anti-semitism and how this racism was turned from prejudice, to discrimination, to persecution, to genocide. It also looks at more recent genocides in the 20th and 21st centuries, and discusses why people still hold racist attitudes and ideas today. It finishes by looking at what we can do to combat racism in our every day lives. A really interesting, well presented and well made assembly.

An interesting lesson that helps the students to understand how perceptions of war have changed over time. It looks at the reasons why so many young men were willing to fight for their country and why the recruitment of soildiers for the army has had to change over time. It also compares what we know about war today with what the public knew in 1914. This particular lesson also focuses on recruitment posters. It gets students to analyse the posters and then create one of their own. A strong and fascinating lesson.

The Holy Trinity can be a difficult concept to understand (especially if you are not a Christian). This lesson introduces the Holy Trinity in a simple and straight forward way. It also links into Christian beliefs and how it helps to explain the nature of God working in the world today. This can be a complex topic, so this allows the pupils to access the information in a relatable way that draw on logical analogies and their own experiences. A useful topic that can be adapted for use at KS2, 3 or 4.

This lesson get the students to explore the Islamic teachings about the use of drugs and alcohol. It uses different teachings from the Quran to explain why Muslims have the attitudes they do towards drugs and alcohol. The students will also be asked to consider whether or not these views should still be held today, and if not what the counter arguments could be. A good lesson to highlight student attitudes and misconceptions.

Was colonialism good for India? While the question might seem obvious the students will be asked to use their critical thinking skills to investigate sources of information. They will be asked to consider why so many people in India still debate whether colonialism was actually a net positive for Indian development. That is the central question at the heart of this excellent lesson the encourages students to learn the history of India and try to identify the positive and negative contributions Britain made. Well worth a look!

This is a fantastic lesson that introduces Mormonism and asks the question ‘Is Mormonism a real religion?’ The lesson features several activities (and a number from the ‘Book of Mormon’ musical!) It includes key teachings from mormonism, facts and myths about the faith and gets to students to research some of the key features of the religion for a quick test at the end. An enjoyable, fast paced, challenging lesson that has been widely praised in observations. “I belieeeeeeve… that I’ll get my own planet!” NOTE - All the resources are contained in the PowerPoint. The worksheets are on the final few slides.

This lesson has been observed several times and has always been rated as outstanding. This lesson introduces the concept of population distribution and the factors that influence it. It uses Africa as an example and gets the students to look at the wide variety of climates across Africa and why the population distribution is so uneven. This lesson looks at the various Christian attitudes towards homosexuality. It investigates three different perspectives (Liberal Protestant, Evangelical Christian and Roman Catholic) and why they believe in this view. This lesson can be used for KS3 or KS4. There is a model answer included (this is based on the GCSE Edexcel SoW) but can easily adapted for another SoW. Students then look at a flawed model answer and are asked to improve it. They are also encouraged to consider their own views, why they hold those views and whether their views mirror one of the religious perspectives studied in the lesson. Overall a fantastic lesson.
