Africa-Themed Alphabet Cards - Phonetic Beginning Sounds

(0)
High quality African alphabet cards with extension material. This amazing resource is ideal for children from three to five years. Using the phonetic approach, it provides a hand-drawn, detailed illustration of things in Africa - mostly animals - for each letter of the alphabet. X has two versions - one with words that contain a clearly audible /x/ sound, and one that is blank (because there is no word in English that begins with a phonetic /x/ sound). You can choose which one to use! In addition, the back of each card has ten more beginning-sound pictures that cover a range of objects, situations and context so that there’s always something that children around the world would recognise. The perfect addition to your language materials, these alphabet cards not only help letter recognition and phonemic awareness, but also serve as a fantastic discussion starter while giving a glimpse into the wonderful continent that is Africa. The PDF download includes a cursive/print as well as a print-only version. Simply print the file on thin cardstock, fold and laminate.

This resource consists of four images each for the following: fauna, flora, landscape, architecture and culture of Egypt. The labels are laid out across the top and the cards are sorted. For extra discussion, the control booklet includes a short text on every image. Print on cardstock, cut on black lines, fold on grey ones and laminate. If you want to include the cursive label (D'Nealian), just fold in the middle so it's back to back. These cards can be used as flashcards or matching cards for more individually paced learning. For younger children, print two sets of the pictures and leave the labels attached on one - the children can then use those as control cards to match the loose labels. For early readers, match labels to pictures and use control booklet to check and discuss work. For older children, match labels and text to pictures. Use the blackline master printable to make own booklets. Disclaimer: I do not own any of the pictures. List of sources included in file.
