I like an active classroom where everyone is busy. If you stop in one day it will look like chaos, but it is a carefully orchestrated chaos that cleverly disguises all the learning that we are doing. I use a lot of activities -- and keep the kids moving. Research says that if anyone sits for more than 15 minutes, their brain disengages and learning is not happening. So I design a lot of activities to get kids moving, talking, thinking and participating.

Slope Connect Four
linda92324linda92324

Slope Connect Four

(0)
Students practice finding slope from 2 points in pairs by playing Connect Four. Each pair of students needs a pair of dice (I use the big foam dice for fun) and a student rolls the dice to determine the row and column of the problem they work. When the problem is completed on the included student worksheet, the partner checks the work and if it is correct the student marks the game sheet, if not the partner gets the square. Play continues until one student has 4 in a row. Students love playing games and throwing dice, so this gives them the opportunity to do both while practicing the valuable skill of finding slope. You can laminate the game sheets for extra use or print extras. 3 different game sheets included with answer keys. This purchase is for one teacher only. Additional teachers must purchase their own license. You may not upload this resource to the internet in any form. If you are interested in purchasing several licenses, please contact me for a district-wide quote at bluemountainmath
Equivalent Fractions Puzzle Set

Equivalent Fractions Puzzle Set

(0)
Students practice simplifying fractions in these 4 puzzles. In two of the puzzles, equivalent fractions have fewer factors and simplify to common fractions up to tenths. More difficult puzzles have many factors and simplify to fifteenths and larger. Puzzles have 2 levels for differentiation in the classroom and answer keys are included for all. In the simpler level, the outside edges are blank, so if students are having difficulty, have them arrange the pieces so the blank sides are on the outside. In the more challenging level, the edges have additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult. Set includes 4 different puzzles with 2 different levels of difficulty for students to practice simplifying fractions and identifying equivalent fractions. You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or give the struggling students the simpler variation.
Scientific Notation Amazing Math

Scientific Notation Amazing Math

(0)
Students practice converting from standard notation to scientific notation in 3 of these mazes and from scientific notation to standard notation in the other three. This is a fun way to practice a skill and keeps students engaged at the same time. I have students use a colored pencil to trace their path and show their work. If they make a mistake, I have them use a different color to continue their work. This way we can see the points of confusion and help clarify. Great for sub work, extra practice at home or use for early finishers as well. I keep several types of mazes available for students as a spiral practice. Works in stations as well.
Exponent Rules Bongo

Exponent Rules Bongo

(0)
Students practice applying the rules of exponents with these 2 decks of cards. There are 2 complete decks each containing 96 cards. In each deck 48 cards have algebraic expressions using different rules of exponents and 48 cards with simplified answers. Deck 2 is a little more challenging, allowing teachers to differentiate in the classroom between struggling and more advanced students. Answer keys are included for both decks. Bongo is a bingo type game played with decks of cards. It is a great activity for groups of 2-6 students. Cards are with problems or answers (but not both) are shuffled and each student is dealt 6 cards. Players turn their cards face up in front of them. Then the other deck is used to turn up one card at a time. If the student has a match, they turn it face down. When all cards are turned face down, yell BONGO. This purchase is for one teacher only. Additional teachers must purchase their own license. You may not upload this resource to the internet in any form. Partner Practice Order of Operations
linda92324linda92324

Partner Practice Order of Operations

(0)
Great collaborative resource to have students practice the order of operations. Students can work in pairs (trios will work as well), one person completes A and the second person completes B and then compares answers. Problems are different, but answers are the same. Self - checking--when students have the same answer they know they are correct, but different answers mean they need to go back and check for their mistake. When students are stumped, one person visits another pair, gets help and is responsible for sharing the solution and all the steps with the partner. Encourages discource in the classroom as they practice this important skill.

18 pairs of matching cards to practice simplifying radicals in the classroom. One half the cards has a radical and the other half show the simplified answer. Great for centers or practice for students who need a little extra help. I use in pairs or small groups and have students work together to match up and discuss their approach to finding the solutions. Promotes discourse in the classroom as well as encourages problem solving from multiple perspectives.
Fractions Operations Puzzle Set

Fractions Operations Puzzle Set

(0)
Students practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions in these 4 puzzles. Each puzzle highlights one of the operations. Puzzles are all a basic level, where the outside edges are bland. Each 16 piece puzzle is coded with a letter to easily check the solution on the included answer keys. The puzzles create a 4 x 4 square which finishes at 9 inches. You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or even give cut pieces to students to put together at home. Since the puzzles finish at a slightly larger square they will just fit construction paper and need to taped/glued together once the teacher has checked the solution. I find tape easier for students. Makes a wonderful display on your bulletin board.
Factoring Quadratics Puzzle Set

Factoring Quadratics Puzzle Set

(0)
Students practice factoring quadratics and/or multiplying binomials in all 4 puzzles in this set. 2 of the puzzles have the leading coefficient at 1 and the other two puzzles have a leading coefficient greater than 1. There are 2 different levels of puzzles with answer keys included for all. In the simpler level, the outside edges are blank, so if students are having difficulty, have them arrange the pieces so the blank sides are on the outside. In the more challenging level, the edges have additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult. You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or give the struggling students the simpler variation while more advanced students get a challenge with level 2 puzzles.

Quadratic Review Treasure Hunt

(0)
Students practice reviewing the graphs, equations, vertex, minimums of quadratic equations.. The 12 problem pages are posted either around the room or in stations. Students work in groups and can start at any place, once they solve the problem, they are directed to the next page to go. Students with an error find they they have been misdirected to the wrong place and work together to find their mistake and get back on track. This is an active classroom activity that gets students moving and talking. Teacher can check individual answer sheets or play a stand up/sit down game once students are finished. Teacher calls out one of the answers and students find it on their answer sheet and then teacher calls out the next answer. Students who have this answer remain standing, if not they sit down. This gives teacher feedback on which problems gave the most difficulty. Answer key is included as well as student worksheet to show their work.

Two Step Equation Chain Reaction

(0)
Students practice solving two step equation in this activity. 3 single chains each with 9 triangles and 1 double chain with 18 triangles included in file. Students work individually or in pairs: Each begins with the triangle marked "start", solves the equation and looks for the answer on the top of another triangle. Triangles are glued or taped together. This continues until all triangles are attached together in one long chain. I love seeing these with different colored paper hanging in the room, makes a lovely bulletin board display. Answer keys are included.
Midpoint Formula Domino Set

Midpoint Formula Domino Set

(0)
Students practice using the midpoint formula in a game format. Set includes 4 different sets of dominoes: 8 Dominoes, 12 Dominoes, 16 Dominoes and 24 Dominoes. The smaller sets are great for pairs or even a student who likes to work alone. The larger sets are good for groups of 3 or 4. Dominoes are cut apart, placed face down and students draw all dominoes equally. Student with "start" places the first domino and then student with the answer/problem in their hand plays the next. This continues until one student is out of dominoes and is declared the winner. I usually give 5 points per domino left in other students hands and keep a running tally. Students love playing games in the classroom and this set will give them the opportunity to practice using the midpoint formula in a fun fast paced game.
