I like an active classroom where everyone is busy. If you stop in one day it will look like chaos, but it is a carefully orchestrated chaos that cleverly disguises all the learning that we are doing. I use a lot of activities -- and keep the kids moving. Research says that if anyone sits for more than 15 minutes, their brain disengages and learning is not happening. So I design a lot of activities to get kids moving, talking, thinking and participating.

Equation Domino Bundle

Students practice solving one step, two step and multi-step one variable equations with integer answers. Great for review and practice as well as targeted intervention for struggling learners. Students cut apart and shuffle dominoes and then draw an equal number for their hand. The student with the start places that domino first and then students solve the equations in their hands to see who can place the next domino. Student who uses all their dominoes wins. Package include 3 sets of each: 8, 12, 16 and 24 dominoes. Smaller set is ideal for partner practice while the larger sets are great for groups of 3 or 4. Buying the bundle saves you money versus buying the 3 sets individually and includes One Step, Two Step and Multi Step Equation Dominoes from Blue Mountain Math. My classroom always features Fun Friday where we play review games and activities to develop skills in a collaborative atmosphere.

Systems of Linear Equations Domino Set

(0)
Students practice solving Systems of Linear Equations using algebraic methods in a game format. Set includes 4 different sets of dominoes: 8 Dominoes, 12 Dominoes, 16 Dominoes and 24 Dominoes. The smaller sets are great for pairs or even a student who likes to work alone. The larger sets are good for groups of 3 or 4. Dominoes are cut apart, placed face down and students draw all dominoes equally. Student with "start" places the first domino and then student with the answer/system in their hand plays the next. This continues until one student is out of dominoes and is declared the winner. I usually give 5 points per domino left in other students hands and keep a running tally. Students love playing games in the classroom and this set will give them the opportunity to practice solving linear systems of equations. For students who struggle, have them practice checking the solutions into the system to determine the answer.

This is a wonderful collaborative activity to practice writing linear equations. Groups will work together to use the information given to write linear equations in either point slope form, standard form or slope intercept form. Correct groups receive a piece of the 9 piece puzzle. When all 9 stations have been solved, groups will write the additional 3 equations on the puzzle and finish the quest! Groups will write a two equations at each of 9 stations and 3 additional equations on the 9 piece puzzle helping to improve their math skills.

This is a wonderful collaborative activity to practice solving systems of equations in word problem form. Groups will work together to read the problem and solve the system. Correct groups receive a piece of the 9 piece puzzle. When all 9 stations have been solved, groups will solve the additional system printed on the puzzle and finish the quest! Groups will solve 9 word problems and one written problem on the 9 piece puzzle helping to improve their math skills. Additional differention strategies are included. Teacher can print the optional equations list by station to start struggling learners with equations to choose from. Or teacher can print the entire list of equations for the activity for students. This works great to get students to work at decoding word problems and talking about math.

Looking for a twist to station activities? Here it is.....This is a wonderful collaborative activity to practice solving two step inequalities. Groups will work together to solve 2 inequalities at each station and graph the solutions. Correct groups receive a piece of the 9 piece puzzle. When all 9 stations have been solved, groups will solve the additional 3 inequalities printed on the puzzle and finish the quest! In total groups will solve a total of 21 inequalities and graph the solutions to 18 of these improve and/ or review their math skills.

Students love to be out of their seats in the classroom, so give them some math to do. Students work in teams to solve systems of equations and complete the problems in order. Post the problems around the room and have student teams begin anywhere. They place the first answer in the pentagon on their answer sheet and then solve the problem to find their next answer--posted somewhere in the room. It can be chaotic but students enjoy this fast paced review and practice. Answer key included as well as full directions and worksheet for students to show their work.

Students practice solving two step inequalities in a fun group activity, racing around the room to find the solution to their problem. Activity includes 12 problems, with student answer sheet and included answer key. Also included is my fun way to check class answers and assess student understanding. Students always enjoy a fast paced activity that engages them as well as helps them master solving inequalities.

Students practice find surface area and volume of prisms: rectangular, triangular and cubes. The 8 problem pages are posted either around the room or in stations. Students work in groups and can start at any place, once they solve the problem, they are directed to the next page to go. Students with an error find they they have been misdirected to the wrong place and work together to find their mistake and get back on track. This is an active classroom activity that gets students moving and talking. Teacher can check individual answer sheets or play a stand up/sit down game once students are finished. Teacher calls out one of the answers and students find it on their answer sheet and then teacher calls out the next answer. Students who have this answer remain standing, if not they sit down. This gives teacher feedback on which problems gave the most difficulty. Answer key is included as well as student worksheet to show their work.

Fraction-Decimal-Percents Puzzle Set

(0)
Students practice converting between fractions and decimals in two of these puzzles and and practice converting between fractions and percents in the other two puzzles. Puzzles have 2 levels for differentiation in the classroom and answer keys are included for all as well as a recording sheet for students to show their work. In the simpler level, the outside edges are blank, so if students are having difficulty, have them arrange the pieces so the blank sides are on the outside and the letters are all facing in the same direction. In the more challenging level, the edges have additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult. Set includes 4 different puzzles with 2 different levels of difficulty for students to practice with fractions, decimals and percents. This is a great activity for students to self-check their understanding and giving them the opportunity to work together. You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or give the struggling students the simpler variation.

Students can match squares of integers with their solution or find the solution to square roots. The basic level for each puzzles has blank edges. In level 2 the puzzles have extra answers/problems on the border pieces so students have to work a little harder to complete the puzzle. Note: these puzzles each contain 16 pieces and finish at 9 1/2 inches square, so students will need to tape/glue to scratch paper when the teacher has verified the solution is correct. The answer keys are included.

In the more challenging level, the edges have additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult. Set includes 4 different puzzles with 2 different levels of difficulty for students to practice solving proportions. You can use the puzzles on different days, at stations or give the struggling students the simpler variation. I keep puzzles on my extra table for those students who are always finished early and are looking for something to do.

Students practice rules of exponents in these 5 puzzles of 3 different levels of difficulty. Each puzzle has 16 pieces, finishes at nearly 9 inches square and highlights one of the different rules of exponents. Answer keys are included for each. In the 2 basic level puzzle, the outside edges are blank, so if students are having difficulty, have them arrange the pieces so the blank sides are on the outside and turn the center letters toward the student. In the more challenging level, 2 of the puzzles have edges with additional problems/answers in the border to make solving a little more difficult. I always have the students start by pairing up matching squares instead of attempting to put the entire puzzle together at once. The fifth puzzle is very challenging. It has the distractor problems/answers on the borders as well as very challenging exponent problems. This finishes to a larger size to accommodate those larger problems. Puzzles can be taped or glued to card stock or scrap paper. Makes a wonderful display on your bulletin board.
