I like an active classroom where everyone is busy. If you stop in one day it will look like chaos, but it is a carefully orchestrated chaos that cleverly disguises all the learning that we are doing. I use a lot of activities -- and keep the kids moving. Research says that if anyone sits for more than 15 minutes, their brain disengages and learning is not happening. So I design a lot of activities to get kids moving, talking, thinking and participating.

Corner Collaboration--Finding the Discriminant

(0)
Students work to identify the discriminant of a quadratic equation then collaborate with other students to check their work and check for errors. Resource includes 4 different worksheets, each identified with a symbol. Students work in home groups to calculate the discriminat of their quadratic equations. I use a timer to keep students on task, and when timer goes off, students break up into groups in each of the 4 corners with students of same worksheet to discuss problems, compare answers and check for errors. When time is up, students return to their home groups. This is a kagan strategy which works great to increase discourse in the math classroom.
Integer Mazes

Integer Mazes

(1)
Looking for a quick and fun way to practice integers without using another boring worksheet? Students will love beginning each maze at the "start" position, solving a problem to find the next place to move until they reach the place marked "end". 3 versions of mazes with adding and subtracting integers with answer keys included as well. I like to have students work in twos (or threes) if you have an odd number in the class, give each student a different version and have them work and help each other.
Central Angle Measures Matching Card Bundle

Central Angle Measures Matching Card Bundle

3 Resources
3 Sets of matching cards included to help students master calculating the central angles in circles. In each set there are 20 pairs of matching cards--half with a diagram of a circle with angle indicated and the other half with either the measure of the angle or the value of "x". The easiest level of cards with have students identify angles and calculate measures with 1 or 2 steps. The second set has students identifiy angle relationships and find the value of "x" in the expression. The most challenging set has students use the theorems to identify and create a correct equation to solve for x and then use that variable to find the angle measure. This is a great set to use for differentiating in the classroom. Use in a variety of ways as described in the directions or in my free resource.

Quadratic Standard Form vs Vertex Form Domino Set

(0)
Students practice converting between Quadratic standard form and vertex form by playing a lively game of dominoes. 4 complete sets included: sets of 8, 12, 16, and 24, with answer keys. Smaller sets are perfect for partner play while larger sets can be used for small groups. Students shuffle the pieces face down and divide the pieces evenly (in a set of 12, 2 players would each have 6 dominoes). The player with "Start" goes first and then each player works the problems in their hand to see which player would match the played domino. Play continues until one player is out of dominoes--and they receive 5 points for each domino left in opponents hand.
Two Step Equation Chain Reaction

Two Step Equation Chain Reaction

(0)
Students practice solving two step equation in this activity. 3 single chains each with 9 triangles and 1 double chain with 18 triangles included in file. Students work individually or in pairs: Each begins with the triangle marked "start", solves the equation and looks for the answer on the top of another triangle. Triangles are glued or taped together. This continues until all triangles are attached together in one long chain. I love seeing these with different colored paper hanging in the room, makes a lovely bulletin board display. Answer keys are included.

Quadratic Review Treasure Hunt

(0)
Students practice reviewing the graphs, equations, vertex, minimums of quadratic equations.. The 12 problem pages are posted either around the room or in stations. Students work in groups and can start at any place, once they solve the problem, they are directed to the next page to go. Students with an error find they they have been misdirected to the wrong place and work together to find their mistake and get back on track. This is an active classroom activity that gets students moving and talking. Teacher can check individual answer sheets or play a stand up/sit down game once students are finished. Teacher calls out one of the answers and students find it on their answer sheet and then teacher calls out the next answer. Students who have this answer remain standing, if not they sit down. This gives teacher feedback on which problems gave the most difficulty. Answer key is included as well as student worksheet to show their work.
